Authentic sushi restaurant.
You had me at omakase! We both had the regular omakase and from the first bite to the last I was delighted with the freshness of the fish, the simplicity of the flavors and taste of each delicate bite. As each plate was placed on the table the waitress let us know what was being served, then if we should eat one or the other first and also if we should use soy sauce or not. Everything was fabulous but I will say my favorite was the tuna and the butterfish. The blue crab handroll at the end is given on my top of the list and great way to end the meal.
Located in a small plaza with a small parking lot although we were able to find parking pretty easily. Ambiance is casual yet nice.

Don't sit at the table. Sit at the bar and opt for omakase.
They offer a rather splendid experience. Everything was great.
It might be a tad dull if you seek something more adventurous or if you are an omakase connoisseur.
The place lacks a bit of ambiance, in my opinion.

Trust me, the sushi here is above & beyond the call of duty! 👌 The only regret I have was not having taken pictures of everything that was served during my ultimate🔝sushi course! ☝ When you make your way over here or there, do dab often, if not always, small portions of their unique creamy wasabi because it will delightfully make everything deliciously delicious! 👐

The rolls here, even though only 4 pieces for fresh fish rolls, are filled generously. They are very well made- rolled right, and the Maki is neatly presented.
The fish is definitely fresh and you can taste the mix of green onion with the fish which adds an additional element and is a great complement.
The service was fast and friendly.

Probably the worst service received for such an expensive place. The wait staff would just throw the dishes on the table, quickly mutter something about the dish if they even did that and would leave. I had to ask them what the dishes were, that we were receiving and if soy sauce was a yes or no. I wanted them to slow down, explain the dishes, be kind. None of which they did.
I was on a date so I was afraid to admit the service sucked but then my date commented on how terrible the waiter was.
Also during covid, they put all the seated tables together in one section instead of spreading us out and giving tables some privacy. We were surrounded by other tables and then the other side of the room was empty.
Lastly, the sushi was not that great. It didn’t melt in my mouth. Probably won’t be coming back.

Went here for a birthday dinner in 2022 and got the Japanese omakase course for $170pp at table service. Was not a great experience at all, service just dropped off the pieces as chef made it without explanation sometimes and the pieces sometimes lacked flavor/tasted still frozen
Go somewhere else and have your money better spent

I own a Pilates studio nearby on Robertson (Pilates Body Beverly Hills) and I have been here several times for dinner after work. I love the sushi here! It is fun to sit at the bar and watch them prepare the sushi and they have an excellent omakase menu too. Highly recommend!

They served me something they called "icy toro" which was frankly an insulting attempt to pass off disgusting frozen fish as palatable. This level of disrespect and sheer contempt for the customer is unbelievable.
Other courses were mixed in terms of quality and freshness.
Any remnants of a once great restaurant have surely vanished. There are plenty of better options nearby..

Been here many times but it's actually getting better every time. Had a japanese omakase, chef choice. Quality, serving time, server, all exceptionally good. The best omakase I've had for past years.

Lovely place, with great service. Sushimi was very fresh and tasty. Awesome drinks and great service. Thank you!

you must take the time and look at the sushi presented. some are visually as beautiful as tasty. some pieces are a work of art! servers were quite helpful.

The sushi chef was very attentive and catered the omakase to each of our personal tastes.
Possibly the biggest compliment was that even my wife, who does not usually eat fish and never eats sushi, enjoyed eating sushi!
Definitely recommend this place.

We started our LA vacation at sasabune and had to go back to end the trip. The staff were very kind, the sushi chef remembered what we liked and it was a wonderful way to wrap up our experience.

Have been going to various iterations of Sasabune for 30 years and its a staple in Los Angeles. One of the first omakase I can recall, the food is fresh, the service warm and friendly and the overall experience very good.

We were in SoCal for a few days and our plans fell through. Sasabune was super-accommodating and able to seat us on short notice. It should've been Plan A. It's a very Tokyo-style menu. No goofy rolls, tempura, or avocado. Just outstanding ingredients and spare, purposeful technique.

Traditional nigiri sushi (no mayo!) Very good. Excellent service.
Published 4 years ago
It’s okay. Some pieces of nigiri were better than others. The emphasis of sushi is the preparation of rice creating that perfect degree of ‘bite’. This rice however I felt was a little undercooked. I was hoping this place was going to be good but once they set a thumb sized piece of wasabi down in front of each of us I knew already this place was going to be mediocre at best. It wasn’t 100% wasabi. 100% has an obvious consistency, this was the stuff you get in the tube in the store.

Very good blue crab roll and delicious offerings on most sushi items. They don't have anything that is off the beaten path for sushi in Los Angeles. It's not the best value but great consistency for a place that offers food just a smidge uncomfortable arena. Service is a bit cold but efficient and effective.

What happened to this place? It was totally empty for dinner. All the fish was fishy and the blue crab didn't even taste of blue crab. Menu was just as expensive but the quality was very disappointing!!

I’m really disappointed in the recent changes to Sasabune. We have been coming here for years and always considered this as some of the best sushi in LA. The recent changes to the menu make you choose between a meek 3 piece sushi set with sashimi and an overpriced omakase set. They brought out everything we ordered at once instead of timing it out so you can enjoy each piece. Handrolls were soggy. I don’t think I will be coming back.... I’m going to miss that butterfish.

I highly recommend you try this place all of my friends love it. My friend and I just had dinner there he just flew in from DC. He rated the food as the best sushi he has ever had and he has been all over the world. The best sushi in the west.

Enjoyed the kayak selections on the menu. Our favorites were the beef tongue, Hashim appetizer, and the fluke Boccaccio. I also liked the rice balls. Would pass on the seaweed appetizer (didn't really like the taste) and the chicken meatballs (a kid-friendly option, but really nothing special). Service was good, though the hostess when we first walked in had a mean face and attitude.

My co-workers treated me to an incredible birthday lunch at Sasabune.
I've never been to the other locations, however, this one is located in a random strip mall. The interior is simple yet modern. There are a number of seats at the bar and tables as well. Be sure to make a reservation.
Omakase starts at $65+ | Yellow tail sashimi, seaweed salad , 10 pcs nigiri, oysters 3 ways, hand roll, miso, dessert |
Omakase Lunch set is $35. | Albacore sashimi salad, 7 pcs nigiri, hand roll, miso, dessert. Definitely a bang for the buck. |
My favorites were the toro, uni, yellowtail, and the blue crab hand roll. The fish was so fresh and probably the best I've had. Each piece was well prepared and some were simple but was so flavorful. I love that they explained each dish and how to eat it.
I really enjoyed the lychee sorbet with fresh pineapple. It was a perfect ending.
Service was outstanding.

First sign of a legit sushi restaurant is authentically ground, fresh wasabi, which this place had. Also, a solid selection of amaebi, toro and bluefin.

Always a splendid experience. CHEF Ei took great care of us as usual. Like all the other visits he is very friendly and personable. Just sitting at the bar taking to him is a treat.
The food is excellent. His Angelino twist in sushi was magical. I had stuff that I never tried before and it was divine.
The care and attention he puts into his work is amazing and yet looks so effortless.
I will definitely be back.
