This review is for my second time having takeout. First time was great so I was super psyched about introducing it to some friends. Unfortunately, it’s was very disappointing this time around. The food was barely warm and it shouldn’t be so cold already from the time it was ready to the time I was taking it out of the bag. Secondly I was missing my side items. The salad portion is outrageous, I think it was maybe half filled. For the price of these dishes, they need to do better. Only saving grace was their dessert which was still really good.

Ammatoli is very good, but the prices are ridiculous (only reason i'm deducting 1 star) , $12 for hummus (which is delicious) and most appetizers the same price. The Appetizers are actually the best tasting things at Ammatoli. I literally had the shawarma wrap with Fries + Hummus & their bread $45 , that is just too much for a quick lunch... why $6 for the bread?

The place is amazing. The servers, the quality of the food, everything was top notch and very high quality. However, the only thing I really dislike is the food portions compared to the price. Even though it’s high quality, the portions are pretty small. I would say it’s more appropriate for couples rather than families.

Food was good not great and a bit pricey for what it was and the portion size. Despite the beautiful interior the ambience was awful due to being sandwiched between two families with crying children and small kids running around the table. Overall, the atmosphere was more fitting for a McDonalds.

The ambiance was beautiful. Being inside the restaurant felt like I was dining by the Mediterranean. Our server was helpfu and friendlyl. She inquired about any food allergies and made excellent recommendations that could accommodate everyone's preferences. The food was delicious. The pita bread was made fresh and I LOVE that they served the pita warm. You can tell it came right out of the oven. The hummus and grape leaves were delicious and full of flavor. I ordered something I've never tried before, the Ammatoli Moussaka. I'm so glad I did as it totally made this a great dining experience. It reminded me of a lasagna, but a much healthier version. They use layers of potato and eggplant instead of noodles. I would definitely recommend this dish. My friend liked the spicy garlic lemon chicken. And our other friend shared her gyro plate was good, but the gyro was a little dry. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant for a beautiful and delicious dining experience.

My friends and I chose this restaurant for our Christmas gathering. Our recent visit to this restaurant, which came highly recommended by a trusted friend, turned out to be a profound disappointment. After our order had been served, we politely asked if she could snap a quick photo of our group from a second phone, only to be met with an exaggerated sigh. She then flatly refused and said "No I can't", and abruptly walked away, and we noticed her idly standing at the counter. Such dismissive conduct left us questioning why a simple request for a second photo—a mere few seconds of her time—would be deemed too difficult or inconvenient.

The situation worsened when we brought up our concerns as we settled the bill. Instead of offering any empathy or apology, Mary M talked back with an attitude, and responded rudely insisting she had already taken one picture and suggested we could have asked the receptionist or simply shared the existing shot. Her continued sarcasm and standoffish attitude made us feel like we were imposing on her, rather than simply enjoying a holiday meal with friends. Adding insult to injury, a fixed 22% tip was automatically added to our bill, which is understandable for large groups, yet felt wholly undeserved under such rude circumstances.

Although the food itself was notably good, this experience has left an indelibly negative impression on us. We fully expected the “best” restaurant, as touted by many, to deliver both exceptional cuisine and welcoming service. Regrettably, our first—and most likely our last—visit to this establishment was overshadowed by an unpleasant and unprofessional encounter. In light of this experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to others seeking not only good food but also a genuinely hospitable environment.

We made a reservation for four and showed up on time. They sat us down at a table. Granted we’re all mothers so one of us brought our child which we didn’t think was a big deal. The waitress made us get back up, wait back outside for another table that they promised us would take 5-10 minutes but took another 30. We drove here either from LA and south OC, and were starving. The poor kid was complaining about being hungry and we watched people come in and be seated. I asked to speak to the manager to atleast please offer something to compensate but the rude woman was firm that there was nothing they could do. Absolutely terrible customer service and I’m not coming here again.

The worst customer service ever.
Visited this place last Saturday night on 11/23/2024 without a reservation. We were told that the waiting would be like 15 minutes which we were totally okay with. But we wouldn’t be seated even after 40 minutes of waiting, and even though there were empty seats at the bar and at the patio. So, asked for a manager to talk to, then the manager Christine asked us to exit! All we said was why they wouldn’t let us know that the waiting was getting delayed. Smh… It was SO impressive how customer service could be that obnoxious. I mean, the manager Christine.
The atmosphere looked good, though.

I've never written a bad review but this was astonishing.

We were told by 2 sweet girls at the door the wait is 15-20 minutes. After 40 mins I asked them and they said 5 more minutes.
I then asked for the manager; without a smile or an apology she said I have to wait.
I told her why wouldn't you just tell me it could be up to 45min wait from the beginning so we would go find another place.

She said "that's it or EXIT the restaurant"!
She repeated this few more times.

I have never encountered such an unprofessional, rude, inconsiderate person in the service industry. And she won't give me her name.

I asked outside and I was told her name is Christine.

What a horrendous person to have mange a restaurant.

Staff is very unprofessional! We were there 15 minutes before happy hour is over and we were told that we have to wait for our table just so that we don’t catch happy hour prices. After waiting for more than 15 minutes the manager came out to tell that we have to sit at the bar when there’s plenty of tables empty. We told her that we need a table so she told us that have to hurry up because they have reservations! I wish she would’ve told us that from the beginning instead of having us wait. I’m not even from LA and I’ve never experienced this treatment at any other restaurant

Crazy, ridiculous, flavorful life changing menu from our friends in the Middle East, no not the ones we arent allowed to criticize but the ones who introduced the world to exotic spices, monotheism, respect for human life and what devout faith looks like. I recently had lunch at AMMATOLI in Long Beach, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! The ambience was absolutely stunning, and the flavors of the food were out of this world. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and the presentation was equally impressive. The music created a wonderful atmosphere, and the service was impeccable. Michael, our server, was incredibly attentive and friendly, and Violin, the event manager, went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect.

The only surprise came when I received the check. I ordered the Ammatoli Mixed Mashawi, which includes six different meat selections. I requested chicken kebab, kafta beef, steak kebab, and two lamb chops (with an additional $5 charge). Per the menu, the dish was priced at $46 online, but the total for this item came out to $129, which seemed quite unexpected. We were a party of four, and the total bill was $212 before tax. I had been considering hosting a party at the restaurant, but due to this pricing issue, I don’t think I can proceed with that. Additionally, I had informed them that it was my birthday and requested a nicer table setup, but unfortunately, they didn’t accommodate this, even though other tables remained empty during our stay.

Despite these issues, everything else was amazing. The Osmalieh ice cream was divine, the bread was fresh and warm, and the hummus was deliciously creamy. Although the rice was slightly undercooked, it still had great flavor, and the fried kibbeh mezze was simply spectacular.

Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience and would highly recommend AMMATOLI for anyone looking for authentic and flavorful Mediterranean cuisine in a beautiful setting.

Came here with my friend, who recommended the place. I was excited to visit because I lived in Amman for a few years growing up and love Middle Eastern food! The interior is tastefully designed with inspiration drawn from Chef Dima's experiences, and features furniture and decor straight from her family's possessions and her travels.

Our server was kind and helpful and sought out any answers to questions she wasn't sure how to respond to. The variety of food on the menu was decent. I loved seeing the warm, puffed out pita bread mezze arrive to other tables because I haven't seen pita served that way since the Middle East! My friend and I loved the grilled halloumi with watermelon, fried kibbeh, and ka'ak date cookies.

I docked one star each from Food and Service though because: (Food) the chicken from our shawarma dish was dry and flavorless, and the za'atar manoushe didn't have the full flavor of the za'atar as I was expecting; (Service) One of our dishes arrived and was simply placed on the corner of our table quickly without a word and without a look by another staff member as they were walking by talking to someone else. I'm used to that at fast-paced cafes but not at a restaurant like this.

Overall, nice atmosphere and I would go again, definitely during Ramadan when they serve mansaf, Jordan's national dish and my favorite!

I can’t remember all of them but the lamb, the specialty pizzas, tabbouleh salad all the way to the pita it was all just a perfect dinner in Long Beach. I was in town on buisness and was giving this restaurant to try, I arrived and I asked to be seated at the bar,

The bartender was busy but luckely another waiter took my order. I asked for the lentil soup and lam chops with a medium well done.

My food took long to get there but both my soup and dinner was delivered at the same time. I told the food delivery guy and he said that is the way they do it. I started to eat my soup but my lamb chops were getting cold. I started to eat my lamb chops at the same time after several bites I notice they were cooked as medium rare not medium well. I told the waitress and see the red in the meat. She did say that the request was medium well. I ate what I. Old and then asked for my bill. When I gave her my credit card she said something was wrong with my card and called the manager. I was embarrassed and everyone was looking. The manager was able to enter my card with no problem.
By this time I was pussed and I told him my bad experience during dinner. He said there was nothing he could do since I had already finished my dinner and that he would talk with his staff.
Horrible support by manager and bad experience.

I had heard good things about this restaurant and drove all the way from San Diego with my family. As soon as the plates came we were very disappointed. My husband had come few times before the first year it opened and he was surprised with the size of the plates, the portions were literally half the size and the food wasn’t as delicious as before.
Its obvious that when they opened they wanted to get more traffic and hype so had made sure to have decent portions and for food to be top quality but now had went downhill after.
And to make things worse when the bill came we were surprised that they added 22% gratuity without giving us the choice of how much to put and counted us as “5 people” when we were 4 with a baby! That didnt eat! We left feeling gypped and still hungry and didnt enjoy food at all.

Review №94

This is my 3rd experience with Ammatoli and I have to say was very much below the standards that I was expecting after my earlier visits, especially since we drove from San Diego especially so my wife can try it.

To start, portions were definitely cut by half, if not more, while the prices were the same if not increased. Add to that, service was slow and at the end, I was sitting on a cleaned, emptied table waiting for my check for at least 10 minutes.

What kind of pushed me towards “i will not be coming here again” is that they add a 22% gratuity to the bill without telling us before hand that this applies to parties 5 & above, and the fact that the 5th person they counted is a 2 year old baby !! They must have thought he ordered a entree or something.

I used to rave about this place to anyone asking for a recommendation for the best ME food, unfortunately, never again.

We come to Ammatoli at least once EVERY time we visit family in California each year.

I don’t know what happened in the last year but I have to say unfortunately the food has gone downhill.

Grape leaves - flat and mushy. Reference my photo from last year. They were nothing like that.

Muhamara - I took one bite and I knew it had come straight out of a fridge and had been sitting there; definitely not fresh.

Chicken kebab/kafta/ribeye - okay the whole lunacy of ordering the meat by itself baffled me. Last year we got chicken kebab with rice paired. Today we had to order it separately.

Chicken kebab - my wife always orders chicken well done. Today it was undercooked and my wife sent it back. The manager brings it after some time and says “I checked with the chef and it was well done but we cooked it more.” Alright if it was cooked properly we wouldn’t have sent it back so what the hell with the comment.

Kafta - flavor was fine but it was dry.

Ribeye - pungent beefy smell coming from it.

Very very disappointed and we both decided to call time on coming to Ammatoli again.

I am more than happy to pay premium for food but it has to reflect in its quality.

Such a pity.

Took my brother and my family family for his birthday. Very disappointed. Quality of food is above average but the price increases are ridiculous. We had six people in our party and were forced to pay a 22% gratuity. My brothers order wasn’t available instead of telling us so he can switch options. They just brought an alternate dish to the table And we’re surprised he refused and wanted something different or what he originally ordered. We had to wait an extra 30 minutes for him to eat the rest the table he waited it ruined our night. Normal his meal would be comped, but there would be some credit towards the overall bill. We had to argue with the manager and the servers which really brought everything down. It was as if what we were asking for was outrageous, but considering the cost and the quality of the food and the level of this restaurant, we expected better service and treatment. I hate knocking a Middle Eastern restaurant and I thank you wish them the most success I will not return. Be mindful of the 22% forced gratuity. If you go to the party over five understand that this is a very overpriced and at best above average Middle Eastern food you’re really paying pay for the ambience. The manager and servers are rude and pretentious.

On the recommendation of a good friend we went to Ammatoli for dinner and we were not disappointed.

The food itself was excellent.

To start, we ordered a Triple Mezza for a bit of a sampler along with some Pita. We figured with the price we would get a single piece of Pita which would have been fine, but three pieces came and we were pleasantly surprised. The pita was freshly baked and delicious. As for the Mezza, we got some spicy hummus, falafel, and pickled items. It was also amazing.

For entrees we ordered the spicy lemon chicken and a chicken shawarma. Both of those were amazing with a delicious sauce and some of the best yogurt I've ever had.

Our server Peter was excellent and made sure we were catered to perfectly while giving menu recommendations. He told us we couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu, he was correct.

Highly recommend eating here.

The hostess was very nice and got us set up for seating after a mixup. Our server twice said he'd be over. Came over eventually and asked if we were ready. We had never been there before. He was not helpful at all. Frankly, he was rude. Barely checked in. Had to ask more than once just to get ice. Didn't bring another item requested.

Anyway, the spicy half chicken was whatever. Not much flavor a bit dry just like the shawarma. The steak skewers were great. Flavorful. Tihini was strong and pretty tasty.

Water had no ice and while chilled was warm.

They put the meat on wrap bread, not pita. It gets soggy, of course. Other than that no bread or rice is served with most of the dishes except the chicken which is unheard of middle eastern restaurants especially at this price point.

Oh and they include a 22% gratuity for 5 people when from my experience in restaurants it's 6 people and 18% but how times have changed.

Overall, the service was terrible. I would only recommend the steak skewers and I would not return. If you get the server who has a long beard and no personality, I recommend leaving. Nowadays, servers want to take your order and disappear then demand a tip for doing glorified notetaking. I used to work in restaurants and it's only gotten worse. Would rather serve myself and do it right. And I am low maintenance.

Went to have Lunch at Amatoli.
Sining room is charming and cozy.
Style of food is Levantine and Jordanian # think of a refined Middle Eastern cuisine. Food is serve beautifully. Taste profile is refined. Special house pita bread is delicious and made to order. We didn't get to try dessert since we were so full and content. Try Mezza ( like spanish tapas) i enjoy their labneh ( strained yogurt and silky hummus and refined falafel
. Try this restaurant when you are in long Beach. Use Public parking about 150 yard West of the restaurant since Road construction is always happening in that restaurant row.

We really enjoyed our experience at Ammatolj! The food was delicious and our server Michael was lovely :) Don’t miss the beets and labne or the chicken shawarma!

One note I have is that pita should be included when ordering mezze instead of added on with an additional charge.

Overall it was a great experience!

AMMATOLI Levant Restaurant in Los Angeles Long Beach offers a culinary experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy ambiance that set the tone for an unforgettable meal.

The menu is a delightful exploration of Mediterranean flavors, with each dish carefully crafted to showcase the richness of Levantine cuisine. I started with the mezze platter, which was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The hummus was creamy and flavorful, the muhammara had a perfect smoky touch, and the falafel was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

For the main course, I opted for the beef shawarma and chicken, which were cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and seasoned with a perfect blend of spices. And Musakhan was just perfect as well!

The service was impeccable throughout the evening. Our server Jasmine was attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations. The passion for quality and authenticity was evident in every detail, from the presentation of the dishes to the selection of drinks.

Well done Chef Dima! this restaurant is a must-visit. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu!

The food is superb. The service is exceptional. The ambience lovely — low-key chic I’d say. Highly recommend you stop by if you love Mediterranean. Mason deserves a 30% raise. He’s one of the best servers I’ve encountered in a while at any restaurant in SoCal!

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant today. After making a walk-in reservation at 2:15 p.m. and being assured of a table at 4:45 p.m., we arrived after waiting for 2.5 hours only to be told our reservation was abruptly canceled. The so-called manager, Violette, did nothing to address the situation and didn’t even apologize for ruining our afternoon. The lack of professionalism was astonishing—especially since there were several empty tables available, about 3/4 of the restaurant was unoccupied, yet we were refused seating. The manager clearly has no understanding of customer satisfaction. This was a ridiculous experience that completely ruined our Sunday evening, which was meant to be a special occasion for my guests. With a party of 8, this was not only frustrating but also incredibly inconvenient. I would not recommend this restaurant based on this experience.

I rarely write reviews, but this restaurant left me no choice. We attempted to make a reservation for a large group, only to be met with a series of excuses and inefficiencies. After arriving, we were told repeatedly to wait, and hours later, we still hadn’t been seated. The staff was disorganized and seemed overwhelmed, making for an incredibly frustrating experience. In the end, we left without ever being seated. If you’re planning a group outing, avoid this place at all costs. Truly disappointing.

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. I tried to make a reservation for a large group, and they were completely unable to accommodate us. The staff was unhelpful and unorganized, and the entire process was frustrating from start to finish. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking to dine with a group. Very disappointed.

We walked in at 2pm to book a table for 8 people. The lady ironically promised us that we would have this in 3 hours. Then when we went back at 5pm, we were blamed for missing their call (no call from them was made) and were told we lost our table. This not only ruined our Sunday evening but also shocked us because once we called the manager we were faced with utter disregard. Forget being helpful ( Violita) or showing sympathy she was almost trying to get rid of us ( keep in mind we had kids with us). I would not recommend this place and this experience doesn’t even deserve a 0.

Honestly I would give this place a negative - rating if I could. After a 3 hour wait they tell us that we have lost our 8 seat table because they allegedly called us even ( they did not). I would definitely not recommend this place for a local let alone one who is driving from an area far away. The manager has absolutely no power or authority at all. This experience was horrible and I don’t wish it upon anyone when there are so many more amazing places available!!!

Take out for us this time. As always, the portions are generous and the flavors are invigorating (especially those which are meant to be so). Challenging to appreciate why our medium rare requested meats were all in the very well done category. Had hoped their time in the foil tin (several kabobs and roasted veggies in there) would not Marshall the eating experience. I am sorry to say they were very tough and I think it’s just because their temperature was too high when they came off the grill.

Beet salad spectacular- hummus yummy and tabuleh bright and light. The shawarma was tasty and the falafel crunchy despite the ride home. 😋 we spent over $200 to feed five with leftovers for a lunch for one.

BEWARE - house made pita doesn’t leave the building. At least this time it wasn’t just a plastic bag of bread - they had warmed it.

What a great restaurant with solid flavors and great vibes.

Navigating to Ammatoli isn't too bad. There is a parking structure close by on 3rd street that would be the recommended place to park at. Walking over to Ammatoli took less than fiveish minutes for me.

Coming into the restaurant, I was first struck by the gorgeous interior. It's a really beautiful restaurant with wonderful tiles; a bar; and large windows. We were seated and our server was great - regularly checking in on us and offered recommendations pretty easily. Here's what we ordered for lunch:

*Moussaka: I love a good moussaka and haven't had one in a while so was sold on this one. It was surprisingly bigger than I expected and solid - just well executed with nothing too overly fancy here. The unique element here was their bechamel sauce which I hadn't seen before in a moussaka and was delicious with a slight kick.

*Spicy hummus + fresh house pita: We were super tempted to go the three mezza course route but ended up getting pretty big entrees and focused in on the spicy hummus which the waitress suggested. She also suggested getting the fresh house pita (versus the free pita - maybe a bit older or not as fresh I assume?) The spicy hummus was solid with a nice little kick (and like most spicy hummus that I've at least had, not that spicy). The fresh house pita was gigantic and warm.

*Ammatoli health bowl: I think if I came back - I would definitely order this for myself. Loved that it was simple yet flavorful. The falafel was super delicious and the side of tabbouleh was great.

I also got the mint lemonade which wasn't bad and was very aesthetically pleasing. In the end, I could have done without it just as it was a little too sweet for my taste.

Would love to stop by again sooner than later!

This place truly is a 5 star experience with 5 star food. I came here my first time solo and sat at the bar with the delightful bartender (Mason I believe) assisting me. It was so good I came back with three more friends just the other night.
It was the very definition of breaking bread with family. We shared, we literally passed each dish in a circle to try, we got a variety of appetizers, drinks, entrees, and omg the desserts. Everything was incredible. I honestly don’t know if there’s any One thing I could recommend, all of it left us giggling in pain with how full we were. Worth every bite. Such a nice atmosphere for a solo trip at the bar, a date with your hunny, or a group of people. Really can’t go wrong.

OVERPRICED! The Brunch Beef Shawarma was ridiculously expensive for what was served on the bowl. So was the tiny handful of French fries. I don’t understand why they made people wait 20/30 minutes while most of the tables were empty and no one used them even after we sat. The service was LITERALLY POOR outside in the terrace! A refill drink that has not been refilled, and the only interaction with the waiter was when he took the order and when he brought the check ( Then he smiled of course because he expected a tip!). First and last time visiting this restaurant 👎🏼. (See picture of what you get for 51$!)

Although they don’t serve cocktails they have a great wine selection. My husband ordered the Palestinian chicken with a side of the spicy lemon garlic sauce. It was suggested he order it that way and it was delicious. I ordered the lamb chops and I didn’t have a single bite left on my plate. For dessert we indulged in the date cake and the lemon olive oil cake. Both were delicious but the date cake was the star. We look forward to returning. **Review Related to Service Only**

I want to share my disappointing experience at Ammatoli, a place my wife and I have supported since it opened. We've been loyal customers, dining in and ordering takeout regularly. However, our recent Dinner visit left us feeling disheartened.

Firstly, my wife's food arrived 15 minutes before mine, which started things off on the wrong foot. As we tried to enjoy our $200 meal and wine bottle, we felt rushed to leave throughout the evening. Even being asked if we needed to cork our wine after 30 mins of opening and only half a glass in. One staff member even made a comment about us still being there, implying we were overstaying our welcome as he was helping clean up the table next to us with our server.

Then, a "new" manager approached us and asked us how the food was and initiated small talk only for the motive of asking us, after 1.5 hours, to move to a couch because they needed our table. It was incredibly unprofessional and totally inconsiderate. When asking our waiter about why we were being moved, I was told that they are trying out "new manager techniques" which is okay but you should be letter us know in advance that there is a time limit so we would make the appropriate choices on what to order and how much.

The manager's excuse about needing to "make room" for other customers was disappointing. What bothered us most was the lack of any apology or attempt to make things right. I even attempted to bring up the issue to another manager (Bald Man), but with an utter lack of customer service, didn't bother to offer an apology, but in fact justified the actions of the other manager and said that it's their policy and supported the action of us being booted out of our table. He clear did not give one care to listen to the customer and did not possessed the skill set or demeanor to de-escalate the situation. If you are going to kick someone off their table, please let the customer know before hand about your timing policy. Despite loving the food, the poor service and treatment has made us decide to not ever come back. When a restaurant prioritizes turning tables over customer satisfaction, it's a real letdown for loyal customers like us.
