I knew lily since I was stationed at McClellan AFB CA I went in her shop in 1990 for the first time and I still visit because I'm originally from England. And I miss fish and chips and none in the area come close to hers.

After years of driving past here, we finally stopped by. They just moved to a smaller location and don't offer their food menu anymore. They had a nice variety of British items that we have never seen anywhere else. We got a few random items and haven't tried them all yet. We'll definitely be back.

I last visited here when I was 5 years old with my aunt and grandparents who immigrated from England in the 50s. I was looking forward to having a nice lunch and some tea and also purchasing some imported items, sadly to my surprise they have closed down the store. Best wishes to the owners. I wish I had come sooner and shown my support for small business.

What a charming place! A small import store on one side, for those British items that are hard to get here. And seating for about 30 on the other restaurant side, cloth tablecloths and fun decor. The fish and chips is FANTASTIC. Generous portions and excellent quality Icelandic cod fish with the breading/batter done to perfection, crisp, not greasy.

We added mushy peas and bread/butter for a classic lunch. The owner is gracious and friendly. I will be going back, tea and crumpets next time.

Review №59

We read some reviews on this place and were excited for what seemed to be a truly British establishment, serving more authentic fish and chips and the little things we miss from being in the UK. We headed over a little later in the day, keeping in mind the closing times stated on their website and google, with the hopes of some fish and chips to go and some other goodies from their store. There were around 3-4 people in there finishing up their meals as we entered with what seemed to be one person working the cafe side and the store, and were welcomed with a smile. As we came to try and order food before 3pm, we were told the kitchen closes at 2:30 (contrary to the online information and the sign on the front of the store). Unfortunate, but hey not the end of the world. Would have been nice as we entered to be told a quick, “hi - if you’re planning on a food order, our kitchen closes in 5 minutes”. When browsing to pick up a couple of home comforts, everything is WAY overpriced. A smaller bar of Cadbury’s dairy milk that is out of date at close to $10 (visit one of the many local import stores and find them much cheaper), “bangers” full of processed ingredients more akin to a Richmond sausage and not a classic British banger, 4-5 rashers of medium bacon for $10. With the short opening hours, it’s easy to see why things are more expensive but it’s certainly not somewhere I’d recommend anybody take a specific trip.

I had such hopes for this place. I drove down from Marysville to buy some goodies to remind me of home. They have a somewhat limited inventory and all of the products are way overpriced. Despite the high pricing I bought 4 of my childhood favorites candy bars. I was very disappointed when I got home, all of them were “best by” dated for May of 2020 - so yeah, the overpriced chocolate was stale. I opened up 2 of my bars and the chocolate had not been in a temperature controlled environment as it was all kinds of colors from white to dark grey. I haven’t opened the other 2 yet, but I suspect the chocolate will be ruined like my other 2 were. Very disappointed. I would not go back here, and do not recommend this place on any level. The proprietor of this store needs to keep a keener eye on sell by dates and temperatures, I can only imagine what the dates are on the food they are serving...

Review №81

My boyfriend and I came here for fish and chips. He's English and I lived in England for a few years, so we've both been looking for authentic fish and chips for awhile. At first glance, all of the reviews we saw for this place were great, so we gave it a try. Sadly the fish was BLAND, and the batter was very soggy and tasteless. The chips were no different. Worst fish and chips either of us have ever had. Not worth ~$35 AT ALL. The little shop is pretty expensive but it has a few hard to find things. The customer service was strange - the woman was nice but also came across as condescending. All in all, I wouldn't ever eat here again.

Review №105

It takes a lot for me to give two stars to a restaurant. Firstly, prices are extremely high. I got fish and chips, which cost over $16. The fish was good, but nothing exceptional. Their chips were just standard fries. My wife got the scone with jam, which, as the picture shows, was basically a very small bisquick-tasting biscuit with store jam and butter. Nothing worth the over $7 paid for it.
The grocery store of the shop was scarcely stocked and very expensive compared to what the exact items can be ordered for online.
While I won't say the shop isn't worth going to, it's not someplace I'll be stopping at again.

Some of the best fish and chips. They have a store that sells British food items, and other items. You can have a great meal, then go shopping for your favorite British goodies. The people who run the place look like they are really enjoying what they do and it comes forth in their presentation. They are very reasonable too.

Published 6 years ago

Review №118

It was a fun experience! A bit overpriced for what we seemed to get (the scone with jam and clotted cream was about $8 and smaller than an English muffin you normally get at the grocery), but was quite tasty. The traditional pasty was good, but they had the same options in the refrigerated section of the store for significantly cheaper. There was only one black tea option as well, which was tasty, but I expected some options for a British place. All in all, a good experience!

Review №119

We have friends visiting Hoss from England and they wanted to eat some food to remind them of how and I found this place on Google. The area at this place is located in is kind of sketchy but we still decided stop and check it out. The store look like that it was going out of business with the shells practically bear we still decided to go ahead GameStop better judgment and order food. The people who were working there or somewhat rude and condescending and it took a long time for our food to make an appearance. My wife and I found the food mediocre about the guests that he took over there taught that it was lacking. As beaver waiting for our food another American couple showed up and we could not believe our ears that they were telling them how to eat the food and when I say that which utensils and silverware to use. I am not in the habit of giving negative reviews and in all the reviews that I have given this property is the third review that has been negative. If you are out of the country and were thinking that this place will remind you off home cooking trust me it is not and if somebody cooked like they do at your home you would have left a long time ago and would not be trying to recreate the experience.
