Point Pinos is a "clubhouse" restaurant for the golf course. The atmosphere is great. Nicely decorated, clean, colorful, industrial carpet, lots of large windows and a cozy bar area.
Four + a 2 year old in our party. The high chair was instant and the kids chicken & fries came out in seconds occupying the granddaughter while we looked through the ample menu.
One order was the chicken salad sandwich on fresh sourdough bread. NOTE: The bread on the sandwiches is "homemade" so expect tasty! The sandwich was great with plenty of chicken. Side of fruit versus fries or salad.
The double cheeseburger was juicy, not smashed dry, did I say juicy! Smallish burgers with two patties. The bun was soft and delicious! This burger has good meat to bun ratio where you can taste the beef and not a mouthful of bread . Ian, manager, stopped by the table to let us know the burger was changing and he was enthusiastic about the improvements.
The Bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato sandwich was on homemade, delicious grain bread. The sandwich was a thumbs up! I wasn't hungry so I just had coffee which was also very good, strong but not bitter. Our server was fast and on top of filling water and soda! Even though it was relatively crowded we never had to seek out our server. Everyone said they would definitely return.

This place was amazing and definitely a must. A friend and I came for brunch, and we were not disappointed. There was no wait. However, the restaurant was full. Our server quickly greeted us and offered us mimosas. It was very tempting with the view of the ocean and the sounds of the putting grounds behind me. I chose their drip coffee instead. My meal for the day was the salmon Benedict. The food came out in reasonable time and I love that it was cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the crab cakes and they did not disappoint. They were crispy on the outside and full of crab on the inside. She also ordered it with an extra side of bacon and fruit. The ambience of the ocean and the Sun and the saltiness in the air cannot be appreciated in words but must be enjoyed in person. Don't miss an opportunity to try this restaurant.

We visited on a Sunday, and despite a 15-minute wait for a table for three, we were seated promptly. Our server arrived a few minutes later to ask what we wanted and if we needed water. I ordered regular brewed coffee, and my wife ordered an iced chai. The coffee arrived without cream or sugar, so I had to ask for those separately.

When we were ready to place our order, it took our server a few more minutes to come back. We waited over 30 minutes for our food—chicken fried steak and a BLT. Although we understand that the place was busy, we noticed that the couple who was seated after us had already finished and left by the time our order arrived.

We were about to leave but decided to wait for our server to settle the bill. When our order finally arrived, we immediately requested the check, fearing that paying might also take a long time. A manager came over to address our concerns and mentioned it was a busy day. I brought up the fact that the couple seated after us had already left and noted that waiting for water shouldn't have been an issue, regardless of how busy the restaurant was.

The manager offered us a 20% discount, but in hindsight, we felt that perhaps we should have left earlier.

As diabetics my husband and I can find it difficult to eat out. We are usually limited to salads with a protein. After a round of golf we stopped into Point Pinos for lunch. I was amazed that they have a Keto/Low Carb menu section with 6 fantastic options!!! We each had their bacon cheeseburger salad and it was fantastic.
We live locally in Pacific Grove and because of their sensitivity towards those of us with dietary restrictions, this is our new go-to restaurant. They made our choices easy.

Short review:
Nice staff, they have VERVE coffee! Chicken & waffles are fire.

Longer review:
I had one of the best breakfasts ever years ago in Monterey. It was a place that served verve coffee & had these bomb chicken & waffles with country gravy. I always wanted to go back to that place but found out they closed. However I did some digging & found out that that former owner owned THIS restaurant & they also serve Verve coffee (which is the best coffee) & made the same chicken & waffles. We decided to go here & it did not disappoint, it was once again one of the best breakfasts I have ever had.

I’m not sure how it makes sense to put together fried chicken, sweet syrup, slightly spicy country gravy & a waffle to make a perfect breakfast but it just works & is I believe a marvellous example of God’s good common Grace.

There are many things that will keep me coming back to Monterey, & this place is definitely one of them.

Their crab Benedict was also pretty good, & its right next to a gold course & you have a view of the ocean.

Went here in early 2020 and found it great. Finally came back just recently and the biggest issue was the food and cost. $17 Ceasar salad was at best a "side" salad. Same thing for the $21 chicken salad sandwich... just not worth it. Location is cool, but just hard to justify the prices for the quality of food.

My husband and I, recommended by a friend, recently visited Monterrey for the first time. Seating ourselves at the bar, we were attended to by the exceptional bartender, Michael, who provided exemplary service in both food and beverages. The quality of service surpassed mere 5-star standards, reaching an impressive 5-diamond level. I indulged in the chilaquiles, featuring an exquisite chile sauce, while my husband enjoyed a delectable egg breakfast with delicious bacon and a bacon biscuit. Our overall experience was truly exceptional, and we highly recommend this establishment.

Review №82

Food was mediocre at best. The vegan food had no protein. They could have at least added more beans. The chilachiles were basically just chips and a sauce and 2 eggs. Worst I've ever had. The coffee was amazing though so that gets 5 stars.
None of their heaters had propane and the person they had servicing them was a short petite woman. She was carrying around propane tanks and climbing chairs to light them. The men kept walking past her and not offering to help. She was the nicest person who worked there with great customer service. I didn't appreciate how she was treated. She gets 5 stars.

Editing my review after a SECOND defensive response from the owner:
I WAS being "nice" . . . I was being HONEST with you, (the ultimate respect in my mind) without throwing your employees "under the bus". A one-star review is what my experience deserved. "Nice" does not equal dishonest.

Update 9/3/23 - John with all due respect, if you were trying to be nice you would not have given us a a one star review to begin with. Best -Tamie

==============
I was trying to be nice. (But if you insist)

I had already shared my negative feedback (in person) with (I think) the manager, and the waiter, and I didn't see the point of throwing the waiter or manager further under the bus (as a former waiter and manager myself.)

Nice location, etc.

Food was mediocre for the price. (Tomato Soup = ok, grilled cheese sandwich ($17?) and Chicken sandwich ($18?) a 3 out of 10---rating equals number of bites of the chicken sandwich.)
To his credit, manager tried to make things better by taking the chicken sandwich off the bill and offering two $5 off coupons. A positive response and appreciated, but still doubt we'll return based on the cost/quality, but especially . . . the service.

Waited approximately an hour+ (1:10?) to be served mediocre (EASY prep!) food. Was about to request the check for the two Arnold Palmers and leave when the rattled waiter practically dumped 3-4 condiment bottles right in front of me. (uhh . . . where's my plate going to go?) and then waited another 20 minutes . . . no food . . . was about to request the check AGAIN, when a different waiter noticed us and asked if we'd been taken care of . . . when we explained, 2nd waiter apologized and ran off to the kitchen . . . another 10 minutes, then mediocre food. (original waiter never checked on us for 45+ minutes?)

Original waiter returned to move to take a chair from our table without asking (before realizing we had set our belongings on it.)

In the end, lame excuses ("we were busy", "the kitchen was backed up" . . . (20% of the tables were empty at peak lunch hour. No wait) Which suggests to me (as a former restaurant manager) that the place doesn't train their staff well, is understaffed, or both. (which is on management.)

I hope that is specific enough for the ownership.

I would suggest the owner contact local restaurants Mezzaluna and Peppers Mexicali Cafe for advice on how to manage a restaurant more successfully.

I can't think of a better way to start the day than to enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at The Grill at Point Pinos. We didn't go just once; we had to go twice!
During our recent getaway to the area, my wife and I decided to try The Grill at Point Pinos. Yes, we were staying right around the corner, but we had always wanted to try The Grill. It did NOT disappoint. For our first morning, I enjoyed the Bacon Cheddar Biscuits and Slightly Spicy Sausage Gravy. My wife enjoyed the Papas Poblanos. We also ordered coffees and a carafe of traditional mimosas. First, let me say that the portions are large. A great value for the price. Just beware that if you're not super hungry, ask your server for suggestions for a lighter meal. Speaking of servers, we had the absolute BEST. Ana is such a wonderful person. Attentive but not intrusive. And we had the joy of her service both mornings! A wonderful smile and super pleasant demeanor, she is just great! We were even greeted by the GM (my apologies for not remembering her name) on our second visit and she remembered us!
During our first trip, we opted to eat outside as it was a beautiful morning (the fog had burned off). Just keep in mind that the birds like to sit in the overhead trees. :-). But we opted to eat inside on our second visit due to the foggy morning. My wife and I both wanted something "lighter" for breakfast, so I chose the Thick Cut Ham and Eggs (came with 2 slices of sourdough and country potatoes) and my wife ordered the Spiced Apples and Toasted Pecans Waffle. Again, large portions! Definitely a great value.
Both meals were great. We enjoyed the views and interactions with everyone at The Grill.
Looking forward to visiting again in the near future! Highly recommended.

I went to the grill with two friends on Friday 9/15/23. Our host was friendly and helpful as we perused the menu. Food items ordered were the vegan breakfast bowl with two eggs over medium , the chicken fried steak and eggs and the biscuits and gravy. As I ate the breakfast bowl I realized there were no beans and the fried hash browns were extremely crunchy. My friends chicken fried steak was so tough she had to request a steak knife instead of the butter knife that was provided. In fact the perimeter was so burnt she only ate from the middle. She wasn’t asked how she would like the eggs but the sour dough bread was too firm to enjoy it with the egg yolk and last ,the biscuit was super dry on the third order so she ate only the gravy with the potatoes from the chicken fried steak plate. And by the way ,the two eggs cost $8!

Four of us have a standing breakfast date at Pt. Pinos Grill on Sundays. We are always greeted like family when we arrive. Besides the great food and wonderful atmosphere, sweet ANA, takes extra special care of us each time. She knows what each of us likes and even some of our idiosyncrasies. If there is ever anything wrong, she takes care of it immediately while maintaining a cheerful smile and positive attitude. As locals, it means a lot that we have a place to go that feels like home. Thank you to Tamie, Ian and the rest of the staff for creating such a wonderful place to gather in our community!

Stopped by for a cocktail and Carlos the bartender was astounding! The atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. Carlos provided excellent service immediately making you feel as though you were regular! Also, excellent salesmanship by talking about their brunch menu and the (out of this world) Bloody Mary's! So hyped up we HAD to come back the next day! DEFINITELY MET ALL EXPECTATIONS! Thank you Carlos for a wonderful memory!

Thank you to our server Urhano!!! Diet cokes were consistently refilled and the TriTip steak sandwich was AMAZING!!! Filled with meat and so many fries, very much worth $26 - especially compared to other food pricing nearby. Love this place and the service was awesome.

The Grill at Point Pinos is phenomenal. The staff are all so pleasant and welcoming. The food is hands down amazing, they have won BEST everything. Located at the edge of Pacific Grove on a golf course, the atmosphere is warm and cozy. 5 stars!

Nice menu that offered a great variety of food options. Can accommodate gluten allergies with bread available for sandwiches and avocado toast. The team was very kind and able to answer questions. Nice place for lunch.

Possibly one of the best breakfast/brunch places on the Monterey Peninsula. Quality ingredients and preparation. Anna and her trainee Avery did a great job providing great service. Well worth the price. Bring a rain slicker on foggy days if you want to sit outside, it’s a few hundred feet from the ocean and gets fairly moist until the fog burns off.

Had a mixed experience here, the main draw for our party is the availability of gluten free options which they absolutely nailed.
However when ordering a bowl of soup I was asked if I wanted a cup or bowl (only one option/price on the menu), I also asked if I could order a side salad (not on the menu) and it sure seemed like I got an affirmative answer.
I ended up being served two entrees because they don't have a side salad...
On that note, the Caesar salad was phenomenal, I super loved the whole roasted garlic cloves and would gladly order it again.
The clam chowder was not to my liking, I don't know if there was lobster in or what but the flavor was off and I barely touched it.
Management was nice and comped half the salad due to the confusion, however they also added a 6+ person gratuity charge for our party of 5 people. That's a great way to make sure you don't get tipped more than your gratuity 🤷‍♂️

EDIT: I appreciate the validation and initiative from management to improve customer experience and quality! I am thrilled that you have updated the menu/pos and look forward to another meal including a delicious Caesar salad the next time I am in Point Pinos!

In 2021 went for take out. Decided to get the fried chicken sandwich. Got it back to the car and was excited. After biting into sandwich not excited anymore. Could not take a second bite...just yuck. The chicken seemed like different parts of chicken done in old grease and rubbery.

YUM! Delicious food in beautiful setting, and our server was awesome! We sat on the deck to enjoy the view and I enjoyed the most amazing strawberry waffles I’ve ever had. I love that they also have low carb menu options. My husband had the crab cake Benedict which was also soooo good, we were both in heaven. Everything was fresh and tasty, we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the Monterey/PG area. Highly recommend!

Incredible restaurant experience. First, the food was fantastic. We all ate breakfast and the poblano papas were my favorite. The service was incredible as well. We ate outside to accommodate our dogs and to our delight, there was a menu just for them! At the end of the meal, it somehow got out that we were celebrating a birthday and they brought us a birthday scone which also hit the spot. Great food and great service. Highly recommended.

Seriously the worst service and worst food - fantastic views yet I’ve tried to give this place three chances . Two days ago my son and I ordered grilled cheese with tomato soup…. Took 45 minutes to arrive after I pestered the waiter multiple times. Restaurant was less than half full. Really enjoyed the drunk guys yelling and swearing at top volume while we waited…. And waited . Skip this dump and get great food at Michael’s or anywhere else

We stopped for lunch after a long walk. It had been a cold week in PG, & this day was no different. But with plenty of tables out on their deck and numerous heaters placed near tables, we opted for outside rather than inside with the TV blaring. I thought it really odd and below par when we asked if the heater could be turned on to be told that they were out of propane!
But the Cubana was delicious & the waiter was a genuine, hospitable server!
