Interstellar is amazing! I wish I had found this place sooner.
The chicken katsu curry was delicious & hearty. The chilaquiles were spicy but wonderful.
The matcha latte was great, unsweetened, but add a little honey to your preference!
The vanilla latte was strong, rich, creamy, and sweetened to perfection.
No parking but that’s expected of anything in Santa Monica.
The service is fast and friendly too! 5/5

Had a delicious brunch on a random Monday morning before we left the city. The Google listing had intrigued us the day before, but it was tough to get a seat that day (Sunday.) We felt it was worth trying enough to go the next day before we left - and w me were not disappointed. The food, coffees, and service were great.
The shakshuka and loco moco were both fantastic - even the toast provided with the shakshuka was top-notch! The iced matcha oat milk latte and the traditional latte were exemplary. My only complaint was with the soda. I ordered a Diet Coke and for the price, I wish I’d have received more than the small glass bottle. But this is usually expected at a coffee/focused restaurant.
This place is a must-try if you are anywhere in the area. Highly, highly recommend!

I haven’t had enough chicken katsu’s in my time to properly judge the sauce but the crumbing on the chicken and the tenderness of the fillet was really good. Pasta makes a seemingly strange appearance on the menu, it was fine. Lobster roll was very good, the bread actually great. Other restaurants in the area you feel happy to pay a bit for the location and ambiance, at interstellar it is nice enough but not sure you can add much on to their menu for that.

Hard pass, I’m so confused how people love this place… I was excited to go… it was underwhelming at best. Dirty and unkempt feeling. Service was absent due to order yourself tablets; meh. Coffee was whatever. I left mostly confused on why I was told to come here

Morning time waitresses were rude. An asian waitress told me to wait and said she's gonna clean up the table, but she just left me over there. While I was waiting, two caucasian women came in, then a caucasian waitress cleaned up the table for them and let them sit down first. Finally, she made a seat for me after I asked to her if there is a seat for one. The seat was dirty I left the restaurant because I didn't want to spend any of my money for them. I also asked to one of them if the restaurant is busy, and she said No. Well, that definitely means they didn't want to make a seat for one. Don’t go if you are just alone

I love dining at this neighborhood gem because: 1. Excellent staff: chef Angie and co-owner hubby, Daniel; front-& back of house team: Laura, Ernesto, Edna, Dash; Paul & rest of kitchen crew; 2. Food is never over-salted (something to be aware of for those with or are prone to high blood pressure!) yet delicious because of quality ingredients from the famous Santa Monica Farmer’s Market including the famous Harry’s Berries Gaviota strawberries and kitchen crew’s cooking skills plus tasty beverages curated by Daniel; 3. Inviting and relaxing ambience for both locals and tourists alike!
Please join me in helping to keep this excellent dining option viable in pricey downtown Santa Monica!

Extremely overrated place. I ordered fries worth 9$ and the quantity I got was worth only 2$. Given the inflation it is understood that the quantity may vary but this is a LOOT. I have been to many good places nobody charges so much for just fries.
Also the waitress was very rude.

This was such a cute little café and a total hidden gem on our trip to LA. We went here for breakfast twice and would’ve gone every day of the trip if we hadn’t only discovered it in the last two days. The food was fabulous—the overnight oats are simple but delicious, with great ingredients. The berries are so fresh! Delightfully sweet even without any added sugar (I asked for no powdered sugar). The waffles are made in-house—so flaky and perfectly cooked!! Definitely nothing frozen. The owner Daniel stopped by our table and chatted with us for a while and even remembered us when we came back. The food is awesome and the service is fantastic. If I ever make a trip back to LA, this is my first stop.

Food items okay (croissant breakfast sandwich and french toast with fruit) "aero-cano" (aerated Americano with foam) and the regular drip coffee were absolutely terrible. Sour and bitter, and I'm a coffee lover! So disappointing. Service was poor and we waited 10 minutes for the check. We won't be back.

Eggs bacon and waffles were spectacular! Waffles stands out by being light, fluffy and undeniably the best waffles I have ever had. I asked to separate waffles from eggs and bacon and think this is the way to go! French toast, burrito were also very good. Only drawback was it was a bit on the expensive side for breakfast - 30/pp. I guess you pay for quality!!

Great breakfast spot. We had the waffles with berries, the sunrise breakfast with scrambled eggs, side of hash browns, iced matcha with oat, and pu’erh tea. It is on the pricier side at ~$24 per item.
Waffles with berries: amazing! You can’t tell or taste that it is made with almond flour. The real star of the dish is the butter; soooooo good! The raspberries jam was a little too overpowering and tart — if that’s your thing you’ll love it.
Sunrise breakfast — traditional breakfast with good quality ingredients and it shows; but it’s nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. The toast was the star, very crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Has brown — nothing special. Tasted straight out of McDonald’s.
Iced Macha — really good and flavorful; not too sweet and not too overpowering.
Pu’erh — underwhelming but also not sure if I had expectations. It tasted like water with a hint of tea. I wouldn’t buy that again if I come back.
Service — the service was fast to get the food out but they were bad on following up on anything and the place was not busy; we were two of about 6 people total. Asked for refills on our waters or for a to go cup, and both took a long time. Not bad but also not great.
Overall 3.5 or 4 out of 5. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again, but if I’m in the area I wouldn’t mind stopping by.

The best part of our breakfast was our server. She was very polite and did a great job. We had a lot of other issues however. There were two of us for a 10:30 Sunday brunch and the restaurant was not very crowded. They brought out only one of our dishes, and then the other one 12 minutes later. Having each dish come out so far apart really made it hard to have the meal together. The host and the food runner also could slow down a bit. He was really just throwing the food on the table for ours and all the other tables around us without a smile or convo either. We ordered Caramel Lattes which had a good flavor but for $6.75 it came in one of the smallest cups I have had for coffee in a long time. Even smaller than the water glass. When the entrées did arrive they weren’t as great as I had hoped. Parking in this area is very tricky given its proximity to the water. You’re only options will be metered street parking or a parking garage, which is what we chose to do. It’s $7 for 90 minutes right across from the restaurant. Interstellar is also overly expensive. Our bill came out to be $80 after tip and that’s just with two coffee drinks and two dishes with no extra sides or additions.
I chose to start the meal with a Caramel Latte, and as mentioned it was good in flavor, but tiny in size. For entrées, we chose the Loco Moco and the French Toast and Eggs. The Loco Moco burger patty was pretty good although everything else was just OK. Not great, but not bad. The French Toast itself was one large piece of bread, which was a bit dry, but still pretty good as well. Nothing was a true stand out or made it very memorable. I feel I was expecting more given how close it is to the water.
It was not a bad experience, but given the staggered meals coming out so far apart and just the overall quality, I would not recommend nor do I plan to be back. There are just too many other better options close by.

Good but overpriced. I only ordered Chicken Katsu Kare for a week lunch. The chicken was a little bit dry for what it could be... and for the price. The curry was good. But if you are a cooking enthusiast, you can make a Japanese Kare at home with just a few increments (such a really well made caramelized onions) and have it as good as this one. I like to try dishes from places I hear is good to try to reproduce at home, but this one didn't impressed me much.. maybe will try other things next time.
It was good, but not for $30 for only rice, curry and a dry chicken, with no salad or any other thing.

Just walked by this place and saw an employee dump garbage into the street gutter along Broadway in Santa Monica. When I asked her what she was doing, she turned her back and walked back into the Resturant without a word. I had wanted to try this place out since I’m local, but I won’t be patronizing a place that treats our neighborhood like that.

Wow just had the worst coffee I have ever had the privilege of paying for, I ordered 2 flat whites and got 2 half cups of something that was luke warm, not sure of the origins of the milk used. They were poorly made using poor quality coffee. I’ve had better instant. Won’t be going back.

Our group of five had mixed results. The chicken panko sando and turkey sandwiches were excellent. The lobster rolls were very good once we requested extra aoli sauce to offset the dryness. We were warned that the shrimp was very hot and ordered it mild. It was so hot it was inedible and when we mentioned it the server was unapologetic. Service was mixed and sometimes inattentive. A fantastic and delicious potential but execution was a bit lacking.

I want to begin by saying that the overall quality of the food at this place is great, and their coffee is particularly good. In fact, I consider it my go-to spot in the area. I’ve visited this establishment four times in total. On my previous visits, I enjoyed their lattes and pastries, which were all very good. During my last visit, my wife and I were looking for a quick bite, so we decided to try their sandwiches. We ordered two BLT sandwiches with avocado and a side of fries. Although I forgot to take pictures, I must say that the fries portion was quite small. However, both the BLT sandwiches and the fries were very good in terms of taste. Overall, I would rate the food and lattes a 4.5 out of 5.
I am someone who travels around in search of good food and coffee, and I don’t mind paying for quality when it comes to taste. I have been to many high-end establishments where the experience was worth every penny due to exceptional aspects like food taste, service, or ambiance. However, when it comes to this place, the pricing is simply not justifiable. We ended up paying $63 for two BLT sandwiches with avocado and one side of fries, which, in my opinion, is a complete rip-off. I rarely complain about prices, but this is an exception.
Based on my personal experience, taste, and opinion, I would rate this establishment as follows:
5 for food,
5 for coffee,
4 for ambiance,
0 for price and value.
As always, I encourage you to try it for yourself, as your experience may differ from mine.

Don't be fooled by its look or even the name... It might look like a tourist place with no flavor at all. They really know what they make! This is the breakfast/brunch food you would get at some of the famous hotel restaurants paying at least twice more. Their Belgian waffle was a bit less than what I expected, but it has a very unique taste.

The avocado toast with poached egg was excellent! Well-seasoned, super crunchy delicious bread! The almond flour waffle was so so good! And the egg sandwich with aioli was a total surprise,so good! The only thing the Interstellar could improve is to toast that bread. Other than that, it's a lovely bistro with surprisingly scrumptious food! Highly recommend!

The cultural appropriation of anything Hawaiian is super offensive. But it's more offensive that you call something Hawaiian when you slap pineapples on it. That is not only wring but incorrect. Pineapples aren't even native to Hawaii and we were forced to house them as American business men stole our land

We were able to order breakfast and lunch items at the same time which was nice. 3 people at our table ordered waffles either just a regular waffle or chicken and waffles and surprisingly they all came out at the same time and all of them were still hot. Our breakfast was made of the smallest portions of the most expensive fast-casual breakfast I have ever eaten. The breakfast burrito is literally eggs and bacon and salsa for 25 dollars(see the photo of one half of my 25 dollar meal. The chilaquiles was tortillas, sauce and eggs. While the sauce was good, where’s the beans and avocado?
Not to mention the service. It was hard to get any attention at all even for a first coffee. Eventually after one table visit, the server dropped off the food and never checked on us one time afterward.
Go to Cafe Gratitude or the Rose Cafe for a much better meal with much better service and a much better price.

Coffee was pretty bad (black water), I asked it with milk and it arrived only a bit of milk at the side. The waffle came without jam and maple sirup, differently from how it was stated in the menu (had to remind them). Service was average. I would have not tipped if I had the choice. The food was actually really good. Shashuka and drip coffee were excellent, service was great.
However… I am shocked at the price and Ive lived in LA for 20 years! Two coffee and 2 entrees came out to $80 which is the most Ive ever paid for brunch, or a meal that did not have any alcohol involved.
Avocado toast on one bread was $26! Are they growing their own avocados and milling their own wheat?? Also no refills on drip coffee during brunch? Really? That costs what.. 20 cents a cup?
Also there isnt much of an ambiance (too small of a place) and you are forced to pay 18% tip because they intentionally do not give you an option on the credit card machine for 15%… which was deceitful since you don’t know your total until the machine so you can’t pre calculate.
Tldr: food and coffee, actually amazing. Prices are way too high even for santa monica and they really nickel and dime you.

Really perfect place for a post beach meal, especially with the June gloom clouds still in full effect. Girlfriend had the chicken and waffles. She said it was the best waffle she ever had. I had the chicken katsu curry. The server said it was their most popular dish, and I can see why. Maybe it's a product of the times, and how expensive Santa Monica is in general, but it did feel pretty pricey. Both of our dishes were fairly basic, and to have them pushing $30 takes knocks it down from a spot I'd love to go to regularly.

I just can’t find any justification for their pricing. The food was ok. The portions are standard. The ambiance is standard street-cafe. The service was mediocre.

A little pricey, but oh my gawd, sooo worth that price. So if you have the extra cash, do yourself a favor and visit. Coffee, french toast, waffles, eggs, bacon...every bit, just off the scale, so good.

Everything was REALLY good - bought the:
1) Chilaquiles which was made with red sauce instead of green sauce but it was still really tasty.
2) Chicken & Waffles - the waffle was REALLY good. Made with almond flour so it was light and crunchy and not too heavy. The fried chicken was okay - juicy and tasty but the breading could be crisper and thicker. Waffle was tasty and just sweet enough that it didn't need maple syrup or butter. But they provided a generous amount of butter and maple syrup.
2) Vanilla Latte - delicious with all the flavors well balanced.
Clean bathrooms and nice employees! Chic and cute place! Would definitely come back again!

Went for weekday brunch, dine in, outside seating. Really nice server and experience. We got the orange maple espresso and a latte to drink. Both excellent. Had the branzino ochazuke and chicken and waffle which were both quite delicious. Definitely a unique take on chicken and waffles as the chicken is a Japanese katsu style… but still delicious with butter and maple syrup. Highly recommended.

We’ve come here a few times now. Gets better every time! Such a cute little spot that pays attention to where they source their food (locally & sustainably) and also pay attention to quality. And it’s SO good! They make my iced matcha just right, and this time around I had the waffle with fresh local berries (that were SO sweet) and the jam was everything & more. The waffle was made with almond flower and was so light and fluffy. Usually I can’t eat a whole waffle/ pancake/sweet breakfast dish but I ate the entire thing and did not feel guilty. My boyfriend got the chipotle chicken bowl. And holy moly—so tender, the flavors were unreal & I found myself picking from his plate even after finishing mine (lol). It’s pricy but worth it. I’d love to see more info about their sustainable sourcing on their website and menu & overall food waste management, sustainability in general. It’s super important!

A bit pricey, but the waffles are truly out of this world. Go there, what do you have to lose?

Interstellar breakfast pasta is a Santa Monica must have. It’s expensive but worth every penny. Staff is always super friendly and we have never had to wait more than 5-10 mins. Our go-to’s are the breakfast pasta, shakshouka and garlic fries. We’ve never had their drinks before but they looked delicious!! Pretty pricy for brunch but we love it there!

Cute little place to have a delicious breakfast. I went for breakfast but want to return for lunch. The breakfast food was divine. I had an almond milk hot chocolate with waffles and fruit. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything tasted great. The atmosphere is laid back and the food is reasonably priced.

This cute place is great with seating in or out. Food and Beverages delicious and friendly service.
Shakshuka - gooey and tasty with a slight spice bite, will be hard not to get this again on next visit.
Prosciutto & Fresh Burrata - ingredients were perfectly balanced and not skimpy and the bread delicious.
Hmmm still thinking about that yummy Affogato combo made with Ube ice cream! The coffee beans they use imparts an incredible flavor. Nice way to finish off our meal.
