Classic Japanese restaurant serving sushi, kushiyaki & noodles plus sake & shochu.
Great Izakaya experience, be prepared to wait to be seated if you come late. The room is cozy, with dark wood interior, and you'll feel like you're transported to Japan here. Food is awesome, has a lot of options, small bites are plentiful, you can choose to eat several of those instead of choosing a main course. Their sushi is fresh, ramen is always yummy and we love the various small dishes. Vegetarian will definitely love this place.

It's a very authentic Japanese restaurant in ATL. Good quality of food and various traditional Japanese food along with sake. One thing I didn't satisfied was 2 hours limit per each table due to high volume of customers. Even we reserved the room and spent almost $500 but we only got 30 minutes more.. 😢

There's a great variety of options and all of them were delicious! Our server was super kind, and quick. We were seated upstairs but nothing took any time at all. I'd love to come here like once a week if I lived in Atlanta. Salmon had the freshest taste I've had in a long time.

The salmon skin salad is to die for — the crispy salmon skin paired extremely well with the salad leaves and the sesame dressing. The tantan ramen was solid, very flavorful. I wished it came with a jammy soft boiled egg.
I wasn’t a big fan of the agedashi tofu, the outside skin was on the mushier side. The grilled meat skewers (chef’s selection) were decent but did not taste like they recently came off the grill.
I loved the ambience of the place. Coming in, you are greeted with the ramen/sushi bar with the chefs cooking in front of you. The antique wooden interior of the back area transported me back to mid-century Japan.

Note that there is a 4% surcharge over the prices listed in the menu for using a credit card. I did not see this disclosed anywhere prior to receiving my check. It's certainly not on the website or on the menu. Maybe there is a tiny sign by the door or something. Great food, great izakaya. Best izakaya experience I've found in GA.

I visited this place for the first time 12/3/24 at approximately 7:30pm, for my daughter’s birthday. The server Shen was great, everything was fine until a roach crawled across the table we were dining at and another roach was located under a water glass we were served. Management was called over to view the roaches. We were only offered an 10% discount on the bill. A $3 debit card/ credit card fee was applied so essentially about $3-$4 was taken off from such an appalling, disgusting, unsanitary ,roach infested dining experience. Roaches cause illness and carry lots of diseases. This was not okay. My family and I had to throughly shake our clothing out upon returning home to ensure we didn’t carry this restaurants bugs .

Food:
We have been served a half plate of grilled squid.
The sashimi comes with no ginger.
Service:
Our table is the first table on the second floor. The service ring is out of order, I assume that our server knew it in advance but she still only came our table once by our request.
She didn’t offer us the option of “ frying sweet shrimp head” until we asked about it.
Hope Shoya could do better next time.

Looking at past reviews her mistreating those who are darker skinned even goes back years at this point???? Quite disappointing. Newsflash to her and the owners, if you don’t want non light people going to your restaurant that badly, don’t pick metro atlanta to be your restaurants location!

However, during my most recent visit, the dish was too fishy for my taste, which was quite disappointing. While the food here is amazing, the lack of customer service is too horrendous to overlook!
If the color of your skin is too dark, the hostess will overlook you (even as you stand in front of the hostess stand) and help other customers multiple times before you walk out. The hostess will then refuse that she did anything wrong while rudely overtalking another customer bringing this to her attention. The management allows this behavior by not responding to the situation when it is brought to their attention.
Racism is unacceptable, no matter how delicious or authentic the food is.

Overall food is fine here not great or terrible. Ordered a variety of dishes from chicken satay appetizer, steamed egg custard, vege tempura and a few rolls. Everything was fine including the service which was prompt but impersonable. Lastly didn’t like the fact they did not accept visa gift cards for payments which was strange as well as including a cash vs higher card price for everything. Everyone takes a card these days so very shady they have a price discrepancy like a liquor store…what are they tying to do not pay their taxes lol…there are way better Japanese restaurants for the quality and price so no rush to go back here…

Delicious food, zen atmosphere, but best of all, out of this world service! Let me explain, I ordered sushi rolls for pickup and forgot my receipt (which I needed for expense purposes) so I called and a lady by the name of Seiko (sorry if I got the name wrong) was happy to help. She took down all the information and then texted me a photo of the receipt and called back to ensure that I got it! When it didn't work, she sent it to me by other means. This is the kind of service all establishments should aim for! I'm very grateful 🙏

The bigger our table the worse our experience got. I reminded the server one of our dishes hadn't come out multiple times, with him relaying the kitchen arguing that they'd sent it out.
I'm sure they were correct, but that food definitely didn't reach out table. The kitchen then accused us of one of our table having eaten it. We hadn't as it never reached us.
We paid well over 400 dollars and this is the service we were receiving. Nothing against our server. Two tiny skewers of chicken won't break the restaurants back either way, so why argue?
Suffice to say I probably won't be coming back. Which is a shame as the food is exceptional

The Onigiri had almost no salmon filling, it was just rice really. Disappointed. However, the regular rolls were not bad and the fried oysters were pretty good. Can’t say I will return.

For the place in USA with that much of people, servers are well organized and doesn’t have to wait for too long. Koebi karaage is not easy to see on most of Japanese restaurants around town and this alone is good company with their draft beer in jar. Shishamo is also my favorite.

Having been to Japan, the menu was pretty authentic and gives people an opportunity to try Izakaya menu staples that you wouldn't find at your typical sushi or ramen restaurant in Atlanta. I like restaurants that have small dishes you can try, and this restaurant allows you to try a lot of different flavors. I'd recommend trying the yakitori, okonomiyaki and the BBQ eel as those are menu items hard to find elsewhere in the are and they were all delicious. The atmosphere also is really cool and feels like a true family style Japanese restaurant, with a sushi bar to boot.

This is hands-down one of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in the area, from the selection to the atmosphere and even comparing it to my experiences at restaurants in Japan - I loved it and I'll definitely be coming back! I tried the Beef Tongue, Salmon Ochazuke, Salmon Onigiri, and the Tempura Ice Cream. Everything was perfectly cooked and prepared. The selection on the menu is amazing too, there's so many things I wanted to try! My table mates ordered the Kushiyaki Skewer Plate, the Spicy Kimchee Miso Ramen, the Tako Sunomono, and the Wonton Cheese Agé, all of which tasted delicious and were served beautifully. The service was fantastic, our servers were all very kind and checked on us frequently, and all of the food came out relatively quickly, despite being busy on even a Monday night. The atmosphere was great and I really love the interior of the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to any fans of authentic Japanese cuisine!

Awful awful service, story time:
We came to Atlanta from out of town and were really excited to try this restaurant. We arrived at 9:25 on a Sunday and were told that the kitchen is closing. Confusing because their online closing time says 10:30… we decide to come in regardless and being as considerate as we could we rushed to put in our order within seconds.
We continued trying to be extremely nice to our server out of kindness and were met by multiple snarky comments like ‘i already cleaned everything’ and being told ‘kitchen has already closed!’ when i was simply looking at the menu out of curiosity because we been so rushed in the first place to order that I didn't get to truly look at anything. god forbid i decide to come back after feeling so unwelcome.
After all this we were the first to leave among other customers who were there before us and had the door locked on us immediately after stepping outside. Mind you this is at 10:00 still 30 minutes before closing time.
I highly recommend this business change their operating hours if this is how quest will be treated when arriving an hour before closing time. Honestly would’ve preferred to be turned away at the door, than to have had our night ruined by the rudeness we experienced. Food was incredible and i hate to see it ruined by such awful service.

We arrived an hour and a half before they were scheduled to close and the kitchen was already closing… our server was immediately rushing us to order something and we had no time to even look over the menu and he just gave us his recommendations to order from. On top of that his demeanor was very unprofessional and my ONE very basic question “does this beer come in a can?” was met with unwarranted sarcasm, sassy and irritated facial expressions and just overall rudeness. I understand being in a hurry to leave, but it especially rubbed me the wrong way because I was being very polite. Overall, the food was close to authentic but the service ruined the entire experience.

Made the drive from Tennessee just to try this place out. I was not disappointed. Everything we had was delicious but the star of the meal in my opinion was the Chashu Roast Pork. The service was great and there was only a 15 minute wait for two people. Once we sat down and ordered, the food came out quick as it was ready and not all at once which I liked. The only awkward experience was sitting down in the waiting room because you're so close to the bathroom doors.

Chuka Kurage 10/10. Crunchy and light flavor went great with beer.
Chirashi Don 9/10. Solid selection of seafood.
Sukiyaki Udon 10/10. Fish broth went great with the beef and egg. The soup wasn't too oily so it went down and didn't weigh down my stomach.
Miso soup 5/10. Maybe because I didn't clean my palette but the soup just didn't hit for me.
Overall 10/10. Go to Japanese food and vibe. Line out the door was completely justified.
