I really wanted to like this place since I need a go-to place close to my kids school to work on Friday mornings and this location was great. The loaded avocado toast was well seasoned but the bread tasted stale. I got a cafe au lait (light roast) which was more milk than coffee. As for a service, as a first-timer, I needed a bit more guidance on the menu. I felt like I was an inconvenience when I was asking my questions. So much so that I decided to go somewhere else to comfortably ask for water without giving a “you’re bothering me” vibe.

Decided to come here based off of today's plans. I got a breakfast sandwich and the wife got a lox bagel. I got the drip coffee ( which is a must when trying any coffee shop ) it was quite tasty. They didn't have any pastries which is why I'm knocking a point off. But I guess it's good to save on waste. Overall the atmosphere isn't the greatest and is quite small on the inside. But the Overall experience was great. Would definitely come back

Ah, the coffee shop around the corner.. a place I thought would be my little slice of heaven. And to be fair, it almost is.
The loaded avocado toast? Absolute perfection. Seriously, it's the stuff of dreams. They must have some kind of avocado wizard in the back making it because it's always spot-on.
The atmosphere? Also top-notch.
They've nailed that cozy, modern aesthetic that makes you want to curl up with a book and stay all day. The lighting is perfect, the seating is comfy, and the baristas are super friendly.
But, and here comes the kicker, what is with the music? I get it, some people love old pop. And hey, I'm all for a bit of nostalgia every now and then. But when I'm trying to enjoy my avocado toast and a cappuccino in a place that seems like "chill vibes" I don't wanna feel like I'm stuck in a John Hughes movie.
It's like they've got the same 90s playlist on loop, and honestly, if I hear "I'm every woman" one more time, I might just lose it.
The worst part? It totally clashes with the whole vibe they've worked so hard to create. The sleek, modern decor begs for something more ambient or even some indie tunes. But nope, it's pop all day, every day. It's like they think we won't notice if they keep the volume low, but trust me, we do. Just a thought.
So yeah, I'll keep coming back for that loaded avocado toast and the friendly service, but for the love of all things caffeinated, please, can we do something about the music?

I was in the area. I wanted to some coffee. I didn’t want to buy from Starbucks or Dunkin. Googled the closest coffee shop this came up. It’s a cute little spot. I asked cashier what she recommended and she told me Bianco latte. Also a homemade strawberry pop tart caught my eye. Cashier made small talk with me and made me feel extra welcome and I absolutely loved that. She was so sweet and so were her workers. I haven’t had good tasting coffee in a minute. The latte was delicious. The pop tart was delicious too. This is definitely a spot to try out for coffee. I’ll definitely be back.

I’ve been to this coffee shop a year before, but this time around, the coffee was a letdown. I ordered an iced chai latte and an iced coffee, and both were very watery. Didn’t taste like they had much coffee in it at all. The chai latte was like drinking iced water with flavored syrup and milk. Would not recommend the coffee. But the food was good. I ordered loaded lox and breakfast bagel sandwich. The employees were nice.

I've been to this location twice now. First time the barista was a bit standoffish when I was ordering. Second time, I ordered a latte and a bagel with plain cream cheese. The latte wasn't filled all the way and they didn't put the cream cheese on my bagel. A bit disappointing.

I pretty much only drink cold brew but this place managed to win me over with their lattes. Usually hit this place up before heading to the highway but 4 Lakes being a few miles down Maple makes this a go-to every time I go snowboarding. Can't recommend this place enough

edit: not sure what is going on with this place at the moment but I the past few times I've gone (Fridays and Wednesday mornings), the Con Panna's and Macchiato's have been unfinishable. Either the espresso tastes burnt or the drinks have way too much milk compared to what is listed on the menu. I love this place dearly so I'll continue to support but if the smaller beverages are going to be this way going forward, I will probably avoid.

edit edit: Coffee continues to be delicious. Maybe the staff were just having a bad day. Maybe I judged too harshly and suck. Either case, the new baked goods are INCREDIBLE. I got a croissant for my toddlers to split and a spinach & feta croissant for myself. I just...it's incredible, it was all so good. My wife is going to be pissed once she finds out we got stuff without her but no worries. We can always go again tomorrow which we probably will.

Update 2/6/24:

I wanted to try this place out again to update my review. This time with pictures. Service wasn’t that terrible. They acknowledged me when I came in and welcomed me. I ordered an avocado toast and classic breakfast sandwich. They about several places to sit but it is limited when it gets busy. They have a good amount of selection when it comes to coffee and tea. They have breakfast sandwiches, bagels, power bowls, etc. Prices are okay. My rating still stands at 3.

-avocado toast 2 - multi grain bread, avocado sliced beautifully, and one egg I added on. It was tasty but not for $6.50. For the price, they could have added some onions and sauce.
-classic breakfast sandwich - the bread was a little tough. I would have liked it to be softer. Ingredients were fine. Price was fair for this one.

I came here a couple times. It’s a nice hangout place in the morning/early afternoon when you have breakfast/lunch. Employees are pleasant. They make good quality coffee and smoothies. I had the classic breakfast sandwich. It’s a good size and it was tasty. Prices are inflated which is why I took off 2 stars. $6.50 for a breakfast sandwich is too much.

Was looking for a coffee while waiting on my wife at her DR appt. This place is sort of hidden in the strip mall, but def worth the stop. Drip coffee was great. I prefer it black and it wasn’t bitter or watered down. Great cup of coffee. Less than $3 for a 12oz. If anything I would want more of a selection of coffee maybe in the form of a pour over or aero press. Nice little breakfast menu too, if I was hungry I would’ve gotten the loaded avocado toast. Next time!

Great place to meet with a friend- there were only three tables, 2 seats each and a bar style wrap along the wall with high seats, so be forewarned if you are coming with multiple people, you may not have a seat but don't let that deter you. It's a very cute place, cozy, the coffee was very nice, they had a great menu, much more than I expected. I would def go again if I'm in the area! It's about 5 mins away from Lisle train station. I was a regular at starbucks. I wanted to try this place after boycotting Starbucks. First try I found their coffees over-roasted with a bitter taste. Their bakery selection can use some improvement as well.

The best (possibly the only) independent coffee shop in the western burbs. I’m a far cry from my usual Chicago coffee spots, with only franchises like Dunkin and Sbux in sight. Every time I have the pleasure of visiting this local gem, I rue the dollars that go from my bank account Starbucks every week. Mud & Char knows how to make excellent coffee. Macchiatos, cappuccinos, lattes, I’ve tried them all and I’ll have them again. The bowls are tasty as well as the lox bagel and the classic breakfast sandwich. And if you are GF, they will do anything on a GF bagel. It’s not the best bagel in the world but hey as someone with dietary restrictions I’m just grateful for good options plus the fillings of the sandwiches shine through. Anyways, I’m happy to leave this place a good review and recommend anything on their menu that I mentioned.

If you want a local spot that is intentional about how they make their coffee, look no further. However, they don’t make cortados which is a standard coffee shop option; their signature macchiato was ok. Full of flavor but void of body. Stopped in here to avoid going to these massive chain coffee shops that don’t need our business. The coffee was great, and the service was spectacular. Where they dropped the ball was our sandwiches. Nothing was wrong with the sandwiches in terms of flavor but my BLT the bacon didn’t cover the sandwich which left me with huge empty pieces of toast an tomato in the corners, also my fiancé got the lox bagel which was delicious but they put All of the capers in the middle so when she got to that point it was unbelievably salty lol. No biggie but details are important. I’d recommend sprinkling the capers and spreading them out. Either way we will 100% be returning to this cute shop!

Every time I walk into Mud & Char and see my homies behind the bar,
they put a smile on my face. This is most definitely my favorite place.
The two men I see there the most, never fail to make the perfect morning roast.
With a selection of tea so immaculate, the Starbucks down the street ain't adequate.
Flinging ingredients on bagels faster than menopausal women doing kegels,
slapping patties on the grill, so quick, they give Spongebob shoes to fill.
Yet they always get my order right, so now this poem I must recite,
about the best café around, a place where no employee has ever clowned,
and all of the PTA moms flock, knowing they've got the best coffee on the block.

Small coffee shop but lots to offer. Espresso is great and scone is probably the best I've had so far. Prices are reasonable as I've paid a little over $6 for the scone and espresso. Coffee shop is a little tight on space but is comfortable to have a quick bite.

Partner got hazelnut frappe and raved endlessly about it on the drive home. Easily one of the best coffee shop experiences for them. What I got was less exciting, only because I didn't understand how bitter it was going to be. I consider this to be user error, especially since staff gave sugar to be added after. The white chocolate isn't sweet!

Seriously though, the goodness of this coffee prompted the sharing of multiple childhood memories and at least 40 minutes of conversation. We will be back and I highly recommend.

Favorite place for third-wave coffee. Good selection of whole beans for home brew, and great in house brew choices and specialty drinks. Always worth stopping by when I need a fix.

Light roast coffee tastes OK. The hot chocolate tasted extremely watered down.

Mud and Char is a wonderful place to grab a quick cup of coffee or hang out for a nice breakfast/lunch with a friend. Staff are friendly! Menu steers towards the healthy brunch options. They also have some nice sweet loaves and scones for purchase. Kombucha on tap.

By far the best coffee in DG. If you want coffee from somewhere that doesn’t rhyme with cardux, go to Mud and Char.
