However, the Mexicans doing the cooking always give you a smile and tell you to have a nice day while they hand you your food. They have seating inside and outside. One of the stools inside needs to be fixed. Lots of parking. I ordered an Italian beef with sweet peppers and a pizza puff. The meat in the Italian beef is not dry, it’s moist throughout. The pizza puff has a crunchy exterior and ample filling on the inside. Portions are pretty good. I did order gyros and a burger in the past, both were delicious. The portions for those were huge. Definitely a solid lunch choice.

Use to eat at places just like this when I was a kid all the time, then moved away. It was just like a remember, great hotdog and gyro. Was talking with the guy behind the counter how I had just bought like $200 of bulk Chicago meats and buns to take home.. and he reminded me that I forgot the celery salt for the hotdogs, and hooked me up with some to take home.. THANKS.

Love these guys food. The burgers are big, and filling and so tasty. The onions are grilled to perfection and the portion of ketchup and mustard are just right. They messed up my order I ordered 2 chicken nuggets dinner....they only put 1 chicken nugget dinner and they put a gyro instead of another chicken nugget dinner....the frys didn't have any seasoning at all...I ordered a beef and the beef tasted off to me and I always order a beef from there....the cheese tasted off also....not a good day.... I noticed all of this when I got home....

I have been going to this place since 2012 or so. I used to work in the same strip mall.

The people that would visit our business (From across the US and around the globe) would venture down to Maxwell's to eat. It has become a "go to" for our visiting friends since we had to relocate our business.

Everything I have ever eaten here is GREAT. Beef, Polish, Chicken nuggies, burgers, side orders of bacon (long story) are really, REALLY good. The fries are off the chain too, because they don't use bagged, frozen fries. The fries get "blanched" before final cooking to make the "crispy on the outside, creamy in the middle" texture. The Italian ice is also hard to beat.

The staff is great. Those two malakas running the place are oversized teddy bears. Don't be scared because they are big dudes.

The dining area does leave a little to be desired, but most of their traffic seems to be grab and go. Everything is clean, but just a little older. Which is fine.

Is it a "greasy spoon"?. Yes.
Does it have great food? Yes.
Is the space kinda awkward? Yes.

That pretty much takes care of the boxes I need to check for a good meal, decently priced, and not a chain restaurant.

The food I have ordered to go on my 4th time here individually has been triple cheese burgers a Italian combo beef all with fries and lastly a gyros sandwich! I have yet to try other dishes on the menu! So far all the food I have tried has been good and tasty as for the gyros I have had better! The fries are the main attraction very good! Today was my first time going to this place due to a friend'sreferral. I had a craving for a good polish and these gentlemen DELIVERED!!! Sorry I don't have any pictures. I ate that sucker faster than what I thought and that polish was HUGE!! It came with mustard, sautéed opinions, and they substituted for me the hot peppers with sweet peppers. I am stuffed!! AND I WILL BE BACK!!!

My first visit was awesome. The guy was very kind. I went as soon as they opened. Had a burger & fries. Food was fresh, hot & delicious. I was also given a free soda for being an essential worker. I went a second time on a different day in the evening. Had the total opposite experience. The guy seemed bothered. The food wasnt as good. Fries weren't hot. And no free soda even though the guy from my first visit said a certain group of essential workers get free soda... Had on my uniform both days but wasnt offered that free soda perk on the second visit. Im still gonna go back though because the burger was sooo good on the first visit. I'll just make sure it during the early hours and not later in the day.

I have been going here for years it's just so good. Fresh cut fries, gyros plate is like 2 or 3 meals worth make sure to order an extra pita or 2 as well. Support a small busy and enjoy good food. Hot dogs come with fries around $8 and gyro plate with fries $15.

The food was amazing great portions of fries ane free refills but had an issue with what I assumed was the manager or owner I had ordered my food and I had to check my receipt because he didn't hear me order my actual food so I had to order again. I know that it's because he didn't hear me because as I waited for for my food I heard him tell another customer to speak up. Him trying to put the blame on me for "not ordering my food" and not taking accountability for him just not being able to hear is my issue only along with the fact that the table against the mirror is falling apart.

I’m rating just based off of the gyro I had today. The meat was full of gristle and the cucumber sauce was nowhere near as good as it could be - it’s a key ingredient and how much laziness does it take to make such a bland weak sauce? You could google a better recipe in 5 seconds. Anyway, it was such a bad gyro ,and gyros are hard to screw up so congrats, that I have no confidence in going back for anything else if this is their standard. Also, the guy at the counter could have not seemed ticked off and that would’ve been something.

If you want a place where they have the gyro, hot-dog, hamburger, pizza-puff (not the fancy ones.. the pizza puff you grew up on); this is it. This is a place you don't take for granted. Why are you going to McDonalds when places like this exist? We got dinner here last night and I ended up going again for lunch today. We just moved to Lisle in the last few months and this is the first 'burger joint' that has given me hope. Staff is exactly how you'd expect.

I've been going to this place for over a decade. When I moved to California I missed it a lot and when we moved back to Illinois it was the first place we ate at.

I now live 30 minutes away so I don't get out there as much as I used to but we still take the time to go out there and eat.

The owners are two surly looking brothers who are amazing people if you take a minute to chat them up and get to know them.

The food here is a great representation of Chicago style food and they are super generous with their fry portions!

Also try the Italian Ice. Still the best I've ever had!

This is the best cheesy beef you can get in Downers Grove but worth a drive no matter where you are in DuPage County. Definitely better than Portillo’s beef just not as well known. The beef quality and bread a phenomenal! The cheese burgers and hotdogs are good too but the beef can’t be passed up. Not sure why the owner always seems so mad though 😬
