Incredible sushi and service! Our server was really great and offered some really good suggestions to ramp up our sushi order that we went with and were glad we did! Some shining stars were the honey roll, string salad, mushroom roll, and agedashi tofu, though everything was delicious. We really love how expansive the veggie roll selection is and how reasonable the pricing is. The space is small which makes it feel really cozy and it was fun watching the chefs assemble sushi rolls at the bar. You can tell there’s a lot of pride and care taken by the owner. We saw him walking around and checking in on food prep which was nice to see. This place is definitely loved as it was already pretty full when we got there around 5!

Incredible sushi and tender shumai. I'd skip the teriyaki chicken if I were you. The flavor was light and the sauce thin. The seating was rather cramped due to a packed restaurant. You can sit at the bar and watch the sushi chefs perfect their craft or simply sit at a table nearby. Word to the wise, the kids bento box is rather large and not exactly finger food friendly with the exception of the orange slices and sushi.

Appetizers were really good! Tried the Taiwanese Crispy chicken and takoyaki, both were delicious. Rolls were very good. Singapore noodles were very tasty, had the curry flavor on point. The Katsu Don has a very good Japanese fish sauce.
Price was reasonable, lots of food.

Best sushi around. Fair prices for raw rolls and sashimi. They have an extensive menu for both cooked and raw, but we stick to the basics! Great saki, both hot and cold. They don't take reservations, and the place is pretty small overall. If you get there at 530p or later, expect to wait, especially with larger parties. They do takeout too, although it's always better fresh at the restaurant. Great service, and we always feel like we got our money's worth!

We heard great things about Sushiya and it has a 4.8 rating; however, the sushi was served without wasabi between the rice and fish like traditional sushi is made. Their sushi is average at best.

Fresh sushi, intimate atmosphere. Our favorite place for sushi. Good quality ingredients mean the freshest tasting experience. If you have GI issues, avoid the escolar fish or "white tuna". The Singapore Noodles are delicious.

I have visited SushiYa many times because the food is always of the highest quality and the service is impeccable. The creative presentations of the chefs is comparable to what would be found at an expensive Japanese Restaurant in a very large city, so dining at SushiYa is affordable and uniquely special! Waiting times are very short (if at all) and availability of close parking is a plus.

Sushi in Iowa? Yes! The soups are great, the fish is fresh, the selection is varied and interesting. Sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the artistry of the chefs. Saw things we then had to try. It's small and fairly close feeling, but everyone was friendly and staff was helpful.

Been in Iowa for almost a decade, and I keep coming back to Sushiya. The location is small, which enhances the dining experience and service. It's a hidden gem with great sushi and entrées. Personal favorites are the honey roll and any spicy roll. The Singapore noodles and General Tso chicken are also excellent. This place is worth your time and money every time.

Placed an order online a few times. I really liked the ability to really customize each roll. You can add a bunch of things to the roll. Ordered the Snow Mountain roll adding crab inside. Last time I ordered the Fire Dragon roll. Both rolls were delicious. Will definitely order again when in town.

This is literally my favorite favorite favorite Japanese restaurant (probably restaurant, period). I always come with friends during the lunch hour because everything is priced so well. I usually get the sashimi bento box (comes with a California roll, 6 pcs of sashimi including salmon, tuna and the white fish that I never know the name of as well as salad, soup, edamame and orange slices) the tempura udon (loveee the sweet potato and onion), and the black bean sauce with the udon noodles (so so good). The Singapore style noodles are so fire, and the sushi rolls… honestly, try anything and I bet you’ll love it. This place is a 10/10, Id go every day if I could. Cheers!!

Wish there had been more crab in the rangoons and less celery. Something tasted weirdly chemical-like on 2 of my rolls.. I'm not sure if maybe it was from the table they prepared the rolls on. Priced well though

It'd very small inside. Crabmeat were pretty good. The spider roll wasn't too good. Whatever he had was slightly better. Used the bathroom and saw a whole outdoor patio they didn't even mention.

Great little place to eat at! Our family of four eats here on regular bases and our kids love the sushi and food from the menu! The owners and staff are very kind and very generous, and they check on you when they are in helping and working. I also work very close to them and love their online take out orders for lunch. The orders are accurate, tasty and fresh. The estimated time has always been beat by them as I have got my orders a lot faster than when placed them. I also appreciate it very much that they are not passing the credit card fees to the customers like many greedy restaurants around here! Overall, it’s a little hidden gem in North Liberty!

We went, like real jerks, on Valentine's Day without a reservation. No problem. We only had to wait 20 minutes for a seat at the bar. The menu selections were numerous with all the classic rolls, plus a number of originals. Our waitress was unbelievable considering how packed the restaurant was. Food was great. We watched an amazing volume of to-go items go out the door, but we still got our fish about 20 minutes after we ordered. We shall return!

A nice small sushi restaurant. The menu has a great combination of sushi and actual dishes. I love the fact that there are some home dishes as well making it more unique and authentic in flavor. I recommend trying out some of the home dishes as well as the sushi.

The pricing is range can go from moderate to high prices so do expect to play a bit if you order several things. We ended up paying about $65 per person.

The atmosphere is pretty busy and with the limited tables in a tight space it can be a bit of a wait. On the busy times do expect 15 to 30 minute wait for a table but it just depends.

Great sushi spot in general so definately give it a try.

Despite being short staffed on a busy night, they got us in after a short wait. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is super friendly, they got our food out super fast, and it was a wonderful night. We have yet to encounter an unfriendly face in Sushiya. Thank you for having wonderful food and great service!

Well priced, good atmosphere, and great sushi. Our server was excellent (forgot to get her name) and we got our food very quickly on a Sunday for lunch. Highly recommend the honey roll, eel nigiri, and the salmon sashimi/nigiri

I normally dislike ginger-based Japanese salad dressings, but this one was not so overpowering. The miso soup was tasty as well. 5/5!

Finally tried Sushiya, this place is a hidden gem. Tucked away in scenic North Liberty. Great prices, amazing food. You can taste the quality. I appreciate being able to watch as my sushi was being prepared. 100/10, highly recommend!

This was a delightful find on a family visit. I had a Chasu rice bowl. It was a tad overdone, and was very lean for a fried pork chop. I was thinking chashu as in pork belly. Was hoping for more variety in the sushi, but given the location I understand. Maybe try mango or other ingredients to heighten the flavor palate.

Sushiya is the best sushi in the Iowa City area hands down. Love the food and the staff is great! Highly recommended.

I never liked Sushi before, but when I ate it here I liked it so much! Especially the avocado rolls, crunch rolls, and shrimp tempura rolls.

The place is clean, and the people are friendly and polite.

The rest room is taken care of. It is well-equipped and clean.

I recommend this place, and I will bring my family to it next time.

They have pick up orders, but their app is not working currently. So, you have to call to make your order.

My husband and I eat at Sushiya often. We are regulars when I’m town. We absolutely love the sushi. Our favorite dish is the Chicken Teriyaki bento box. The chicken fried rice is excellent. The Taiwanese Crispy Chicken reminded me of trying Taiwanese Crispy Chicken in London days before the Covid lockdown started. You couldn’t dine in at that point so I sat on a bench in Liecester Square eating the chicken with fry’s and a salad. Not the best memory of London, but the chicken was good.

Everything I had at Sushiya was good even the waiter was good, very sexy. Tall, skinny with black framed glasses. I’m drifting off to sleep with Pizzacato Five’s “The Night Is Still Young.” Lol.

First time I've dined in here and the sushi chef absolutely knocked it out of the park tonight. The presentation is 11/10 the detail that went into my plate tonight is above and beyond and everything was so pretty and well prepared. My server was great too she was super sweet and very helpful!
