My husband and I have been to the Grumps location in Crofton several times and have always been pleased. So, when we were in the Annapolis area and wanted to go to breakfast, we figured we would try their Annapolis location.

We arrived just as they opened and we were treated immediately. The hostess gave us menus and explained we would be ordering at the register and then the food would be brought to us. This was something we were already aware of since they do the same in Crofton.

My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy and I ordered the banana chocolate chip pancakes.

Both of us found our food to be good. The coffee is also very good!

My main feedback is that the restaurant became very loud very quickly. I don't know if it's just because of the layout and shape of the restaurant, but we found it very difficult to have a conversation despite the restaurant not even being very crowded. It made the meal a little less enjoyable.

Again, the food and service was absolutely fine. However, if you're looking for a place to be able to enjoy a slightly more quiet environment and actually be able to hear the person you're with, you might want to go somewhere else.

Such a fun and eclectic place for fast casual dining. The Benedict chicken waffle was amazing!! Nice and savory and hit the spot. We also tried the cat's head biscuits and gravy and beignets. What a wonderful Cafe that serves fantastic comfort food!!

Good food at reasonable prices. Took our family of 6 and was just a little over $60. The service was good and food was timely. Fun atmosphere... The kids enjoyed looking at all the different signs on the wall as well. We'll be back soon for certain.

This was our first stop at Grumps. The place has lots of outdoor seating and ample inside booths and tables. The walls are decorated with lots of small clever signs. You order at the front counter from an extensive menu. Coffee is self serve, which was fine with a couple coffees to select from. The food came as ordered, but much of it was not hot, the reason for my 4 stars. My French toast was delightful, but the eggs were actually cold. Great service, everyone was so welcoming and attentive, food was actually terrible. I havent come here since I was a kid and the sausages were coldish in the middle and tough, the eggs were cold and the biscuits were soggy in the middle and crumbly. The grits were good tho would not come back.

UPDATE 6/03/24: So disappointed the cinnamon rolls have changed. Used to be best in Annapolis - soft, full of cinnamon & frosting. Now they are hard & lack taste. I hope you return to the original ones. Please. Thanks. Online app ordering is easy. Pickup curbside is great too. Food is excellent. Highly Recommend. First time. Ate some delicious biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were homemade and about as big as a small child. The missus had pineapple upside down cake pancakes. Three pancakes the size of hubcaps with homemade cinnamon butter. Yes, they had syrup packets that are probably going to take a few minutes off my life at some point but they tasted good with the pancakes and fit the breakfast diner vibe of the place.

Weve been here a few times in the past and the food has never been anything to write home about but today it was absolutely horrible and it wasnt even cheap - we spent like $70 for two adults and a toddler (with tip because they make you pay before you eat). The orange juice tasted spoiled, the syrup was fake and full of high fructose corn syrup and natural flavors, the chicken looked like it came from the dollar store and the waffles had some type of maple flavoring in it. The omelette was at least somewhat edible. But, definitely will not be going here again.

I was really disappointed in Grumps, a place I have always liked. We went with our grandchildren today. It was very busy. We were prepared to wait. We were told we could only eat outside. We said ok eventhough it was rather cold. We waited in line for about 20 minutes. While in line, 2 tables inside cleared. We asked if we could have one as we were next in line. We were told we couldnt have it as it was promised to someone behind us in the line. The hostess was rude, refused to accommodate us and we had no choice but to leave. We went to Evelyns in West Annapolis which was equally busy but they were welcoming and were able to seat us. It is a pity that a place we have always enjoyed was so unfriendly.

Meh! Likely wont visit this location again. From the less than friendly greeter to the dogs dining INSIDE (puke), to the filthy glass and sticky floor. I get its supposed to be a dive, but theyve taken the concept too far for my liking. I feel like I need a bleach bath.

Grumps Cafe has been a place Ive visited once a week when I go to do laundry across the street from them. Each and everytime, I get great service. The food is always great, and its a shock to see them have anything under 5 stars. The food industry seems to have leaned more towards quantity of workers rather than quality, but thats not the case here. They truly have a great staff to go along with their finished product being great. Itll be a sad time when I can no longer come here.

The positives are it s locally owned and the food is GOOD! As many other reviewers have noted it ssloooow ordering system. In fact the first time we went we sat at a table for 15 mins because we didn t know you had to order at the cash register. The food is really good, it s a shame the staff is so grumpy and tuned out and the entire place is in desperate need of a hot bleach scrub.

First time experience and we were very impressed. Visited on a Sunday after church. The outside and inside dining areas were being well utilized. A mom and pop type of cafe. Very well run, well kept, the staff was great, and the food was delicious. Extremely well priced with generous portions. Wont hesitate to return.

Don t think about going .just go! Best onion rings I ve had in my life. I had the crab cake with salad from the lunch menu. The amount of food is somewhat overwhelming to me but this will be my meals for two days. Absolutely delicious, great ambience. Noisy but worth it and I hate noise. This was a fantastic suggestion from the airb&b in Annapolis.

Great indoor or outdoor casual eatery. A favorite for families and friends. Staff is friendly and helpful. After getting a table and a menu, remember your table number and go inside to the back of the restaurant to place you order at the counter. If ordered, get your cold drink at the station and then return to your table. Wait staff will bring your food to the table once it is prepared. Great breakfast menu items are available. The omelets are a go to selection! Their large pancakes are a hit with kids and adults! It is a popular place we have returned to often. Behaved dogs are welcome to sit near your outdoor table.

Service was pretty good. Food wise I wasnt very impressed. While the side of mac&cheese was actually pretty good and so was the crab cake of the crab cake salad and the ingredients were fresh, the combination of things in salad along with the crab cake and the accompaniment of condiments just didnt execute well together. Granted, the quality and cost of the crabcake was well worth it if the crabcakecake was served on its own over a bed of greens with tartar or mustard sauce. The maple sausage with the French toast was dry and most likely overlooked. Nothing was horrible, but things seemed to just have missed the mark and felt like a novice in the kitchen trying to be innovative. I will however give this place another shot sometime with something more traditional like a burger, sandwich or eggs/omlet.

I got an entire toasted marshmallow coffee and two chocolate chip cookies for $3.74, I didnt know this was still possible. Friendly staff , excellent wifi, indoor and outdoor seating, and right across from our favorite dog grooming place. This place is wonderful!

I used to really love this place. Not anymore, they have changed. I went in with my son this morning and they wouldn t allow us to sit at a table and look over the menu. The door greeter was very rude and unpleasant. We ended up walking out and won t be back.

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime at 1pm and this should be a case study on inefficiencies. You get seated with a menu, find what you want and then go stand in line to place your order at a counter. There was one cashier working who couldnt get orders right and took an average of three and a half minutes to take the order. It took more than twenty minutes standing in line to be able to order food. It looks like there are maybe nearly thirty tables at the place inside and out, depending on whether you separate out four tops into two smaller tables of two. On a Sunday lunch time each table was non-productive for twenty minutes and not earning a penny because you werent waiting on food, you werent eating, you were waiting to place an order. Knock twenty minutes off the time a table takes to complete its transaction from being seated to leaving means you could turn many more tables and make much more money. Instead your customers have to stand in line like a bunch of muppets instead of having an enjoyable meal. Last time going here, not even going to comment on the food, because the mismanagement of their tables and ordering system means I have no desire to stand in line for twenty minutes doing nothing. Dont go, or go when its completely empty and you dont waste half your visit trying to give them money.

If youre looking for some unhealthy and delicious food to fill your stomach and clog your arteries, then this is a good place to be since you can get their great breakfast options no matter the time of day. The atmosphere is definitely kitschy/zany but they lean into it, which does make you forget that youre in an Annapolis strip mall

Friendly staff, great food. Decor was a little kitchy/jokey, but kept the kids entertained. Everything tasted right, had good textures, and seemed fresh. Fries looked less-cooked, but were actually crispy and hot, and some things had burn, but didnt taste anything off. Would prefer more gravy with with the cat head biscuit and gravy. Portions not huge, but decent value. Parking: Lots of parking near closing time.

A great spot for breakfast or lunch! My husband went years ago and he said it hasnt changed much from then. We went for breakfast and got the cathead biscuits and gravey and the Irish benedict to try. Both were wonderful and portions were so generous that we had plenty to take home. Also got an order of biegnets to go and split one before me left. So delicious and crispy! My favorite thing was the adorable numbered duck that they put out at our table. You pay and order at the counter and the coffee was self serve, hot and delicious. I love that relaxed style of dining. Found a new favorite breakfast location.

Great dinner last night at grumps. Loved the bacon Bloody Mary. Loved the Avocado Tuna salad with blue cheese crumbles added. We were all happy. I suggest a return of the Lady Coast Melt to the menu - still a favorite since they have made it for me when I have asked. Grumps.

We are visiting from out of town and came across this restaurant for lunch. We thought this would be different. First, we sat down and was I shocked at the prices! I ordered a chicken salad with salad and my wife ordered a BLT with a side of potatoe salad and with with 2 soft drinks it was 34.91! What? Ordered a chocolate shake and cost almost 7 dollars. Also, other than bringing out the food there was no more service form the staff. Had to ask them to come get our plates out of the way. Food was okay but was way overpriced!

Grumps is one of our go tos. Great for breakfast or lunch. Not the healthiest but are they tasty. One of their best items is the side of grits as they are legit. Corned beef hash, breakfast burger, sandwiches all delicious. Once you get used to how you order your food, everything is great. The added outdoor seating is a plus I hope theyll be able to keep.

Never again. Waited for a table because it was crowded - must be a good restaurant, right? NOT! Took 30 minutes to get our food. People who came in for takeout after us got their food way before us. My wifes sweet potato fries were cold, not warm, cold. My skirt steak sandwich was a hunk of beef slapped on a roll. Not sliced. How do you bite though a piece of beef 3/4 inches thick on a roll. This was not a burger! Nothing on it - just the slab of beef. No condiments, no fried onions, or lettuce and tomato. And $40 for THAT? I could have gotten a better meal at Burger king - 2 whoppers for $5 oh and it comes with 2 order of fries.

OMG The BLT! Did I say OMG? Let me say it again. OMG! The BLT is so good. They must have put 1/2 a pound of bacon on it! It was falling out of the sandwich! I could hardly wait to swallow one bite before I was taking another. I got it with the sweet potato fries that were also cooked and seasoned well. I normally put catsup on them but they didnt need it. I ate my sandwich first so the fries were a little cold by the time I got to them but even cold they were delicious! Im glad I dont live near here because this would definitely be my new addiction.

First experience was terrible (annapolis location). Orderd 3 breakfast sandwiches online at 9:09 for curbside pick up. Got an email to pick up at 9:24 and to call when I arrive. Called when I arrived at 9:30--was told the sandwiches were still being made (no big deal I get it). Was told they would be out shortly with the sandwiches. At 9:55 I had to roll down my window to remind them and call a waiter over to remind them I was still waiting for my 9:09 order. They brought me the bag of cold sandwiches at 9:58. 50 minutes for 3 cold sandwiches. Their menu is impressive but if they cant execute the simple fundamentals why bother? Very annoying experience. Had to take a zoom meeting from my car phone due to the wait which never looks great.

Took 2 hours from seating to serving. Seated quickly but took a long time to get food. My avocado salad was really good.

The food is good. My order has been botched 4 out of 5 times calling in. Now I walk in and order, the efficiency has gone wayside recently. 45 minutes to an hour to receive my order. They need to go back to the old playbook pre pandemic when the place was 3 times as busy and 3 times faster on turn around! Starting to consider a different option at this point.

Fay forgot my syrup and butter on a door - order. They refused to do anything to make it right and therefore or I am never going there again

They have the best breakfast and those biscuits omg! The staff is fast and the food is literally always fresh and good. They never waver from their 5 star food and service.

Yall need to try their chili, oh man. It comes with a perfectly soft mini cornbread waffle, its hearty, its warm, oh its the best! Especially on a cold winters day. Their ground coffee is also pretty good, tastes fresh and never burnt. Everybody seems so friendly, too, and the service is pretty quick. They do have outdoor seating beneath a big tent with a fire pit in the middle. I usually just eat in my car, lol.

I was refused service today because I have a medical condition and did not a mask. According to Governor Hogan s order the business is supposed to make accommodations for alternative means of receiving the service they provide. They obviously don t care about following the law. I will be following up with legal action.

The food is always great, but the friendliness of the staff is hit or miss. In these difficult times, customer service is the key to being successful.
