Michigan Central is a new mobility innovation district located in Corktown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood. Ford Motor Company is restoring Michigan Central Station to be the centerpiece of this district, where mobility innovators and disruptors from around the world will develop, test, and launch new urban transportation solutions.
What a hidden gem which was brought back to life…. Must see if you’re in the area….
The story behind this building and the people who passed through is wonderful and inspiring.. all the people who brought it back to life and to all who returned stuff is mind blowing..
If you are in the area you have to check this out..

My family and I had the pleasure of visiting "Winter at The Station". The event was a great experience! The renovations are beyond perfection! Up until I visited and saw the renovation , I really didn't have any idea of how beautiful the renovations are. Pictures don't do them justice! Michigan Central Station is a must see!

I have driven by this building thousands of times over the years. For the majority of it it was in disrepair and decay. What Ford has done to the building over the past few years is absolutely amazing!
We parked out front and walked into the main entrance. However, you need to register and purchase tour tickets in advance. As of today they are booking six weeks out. We were able to walk around the main level with the cafe, some stores, and the gift shop. When we were there they were setting up for multiple events.
Totally blown away with the restoration, and how beautiful the property looks. They had several before and after photos. Definitely stop in!

This train station with 2.3 acres of glass is beautifully refurbished. So many details and hard work have gone into the newly reopened grand structure. There are a few shops on the main level and places to purchase small snacks and drinks. They offer guided tours if booked in advance.

The tour here was amazing! I was able to learn so much about this building and the history behind it. My tour was on 10/19/2024 at 3:15PM. I'm only mentioning that so i can give a shout out to our tour guide, who was entertaining and informative. This is now a 6 attraction in Detroit for sure!

Had a blast at the holiday celebration and great to see so many people taking a part in this historical renovation! I CANNOT wait to see what the next few years will bring and how many more wonderful events I will be able to attend!!
As a designer, this place how'd me! The cleaning of the bricks to the old artifacts...lovely!

The staff at Michigan Central have put together an absolutely fantastic open house to showcase their achievements so far in restoring this historic monument. One enters through the east side and walks down a hall into the center of the building. There are informative displays set up throughout the ground level that show what that area looked like before the restoration and include panels that tell interesting stories about the struggles and surprises involving the restoration. There was even a moving section dedicated to telling the stories of the many and diverse persons whose lives were impacted in some way by the station.
The staff also displayed items that were found during the restoration. The staff did an outstanding job of connecting these pieces to the buildings story. I was particularly intrigued by the stories involving the two clock faces and the secret room. The staff also left two areas untouched by the renovation--a service stair and a hall still covered in graffiti.
There was parking within walking distance of the station, but the free parking was taken by the time we arrived. The staff also limited the number of people that could enter at one time. For that reason, it may be necessary to wait in line. The line, however, moved fast and we waited only about 20 to 30 minutes.
The crowd seemed to lessen as the night progressed.
There was so much more information to digest and surprises to encounter that I wish I had had more than two hours to take it all in. The restoration staff did an amazing job of restoring the building in a way that was true to its original design, but that respected its history. Ford has done the city a great service by saving this building. This is a must stop on any visit to Detroit.

How very cool!!! Kudos to Ford for restoring this Detroit Gem! The building has been beautifully restored and they did a great job with the various displays.
We went on a Friday night and arrived around 5:30pm. I would recommend going a little later to avoid waiting in line. Or go early and get an awesome egg sandwich or grilled cheese from the Nu Deli food truck along with a cocktail and listen to music.

Michigan Central’s reconstruction is absolutely stunning. I love how they preserved its history by restoring the architectural design while keeping original elements, like the pillars and graffiti, intact. The first floor features photos and historical displays that provide fascinating insights into the building’s past. I learned so much and had a wonderful time!

Having heard about all the renovation plans and efforts to rejuvenate this amazing Detroit landmark, we took advantage of an open house event that enabled us to get an extensive view of most of the first floor area. We were not disappointed! The craftsmanship of the original artists and the restoration teams is jaw-dropping! No lover of architecture should skip the opportunity to experience this space! The vaulted ceiling of the main entryway reflects a grandeur of a time long gone. A no-miss!
Pro tip: Those planning to visit need to ensure that they have confirmed Visitor Hours prior to departure.

Excellent beautiful place and so glad it’s in Detroit but some one has to show those “security “ people at the entrance they are there to help visitors and guide them. Sorry it’s not the job you wanted but don’t take it on others. Me and three or four other parties were treated very poorly by these people.

Awesome Place I haven't been at the Michigan Central Train Station since the last time the Freedom Train made its last visit here a Super Long Time Ago. I'm thankful that this building has been bought and saved from being demolished so many memories here.
I went there hoping to be able to attend a tour of the renovation but the tour was booked for the Holidays, I'll try back another time.

They did a nice job restoring the place, even though it was much more adventurous and interesting walking around in there ten years ago. Anyway, what I didn't like about the tour was how Detroit history is being kinda whitewashed by the guides, at least the one we had. And you don't really hear anything about railway history and the specific role the station had in the network, for example. It's more about praising Ford, it seems. Tour is ground floor only

Ordered winter tickets on line. They were free and it was Saturday Can get 4 tickets at a time. Check in was easy and quick. There are pictures of before renovations were started. So you can compare how it looks now to before. This was interesting. They have a gift shop and some small pop up shops inside. Just the first floor is open to look around. The tours might take you elsewhere not sure. It was interesting to see. There is a small coffee and snack shop also. There was a kids movie running.

This building was beautiful! I was very unhappy, though. I was trying to find a parking spot for an EMS training event and had a nice gentleman tell me I could park anywhere along the side of the road. I took his advice because of the convince, as I had driven someone who is wheel chair dependant. As I was leaving the training, I came out and found a $45.00 parking ticket stuck under my winshield wiper blade's. REALLY Detroit? You can do better! 😞

Michigan Central Station is an incredible piece of Detroit’s history! This iconic building, once a bustling train station, is now under careful restoration. The architecture is awe-inspiring, with towering columns and classic Beaux-Arts design. Although you can’t go inside, it’s still worth a visit to admire the structure and imagine its former glory. Once the renovations are complete, this landmark will become a hub of activity again, blending Detroit’s past with its future. Definitely a must-see stop for architecture lovers and history buffs!

I took a tour of Michigan Central Station through 'Detroit History Tours'. The cost was $20 and lasted just under 90 minutes (as of Nov '24). The tour was fun and informative. Thank you to Ford Motor Co. and all of the workers that spent six years bringing this building back to life. It's truly amazing!
