The donuts are amazing(cake donuts in particular), the burgers are delicious(juicy & flavorful with super fresh vegetables), and their fries are great(different seasonings make them stand out & really give them unique flavors)! On any trip I always look for a cool coffee shop to try and this one did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had vegan options in more than two donuts, I had the French toast one and it was AMAzing! I also ordered their honey oat milk cold brew and its was delish . The workers were super sweet and helpful . If I’m ever in this part of Virginia again I’ll definitely stop in .

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Sugar Shack Donuts. I placed a pre-order for their gluten-free donut day to ensure my daughter, who has a gluten allergy, could enjoy some treats. Heard accounts from known past employees about how dysfunctional and rude the management is towards the staff. They now do a service charge that they don’t disclose. When I got my receipt I had to ask what the service charge was for. The guy said anytime they use the toast app they have to add it. Plenty of stores use the toast app and I don’t get charged a service fee. I don’t understand how they can just add a random charge and not tell customers. What a shady company.

Recently I had the Mocha Mint Latte (iced) and it was delicious! I paired it with a chocolate cake donut and it was perfect. I’ve also had a red velvet donut on another visit. Never disappoints! Friendly and hospitable staff. In fact, while I was there a previous customer left his drink on the counter and the staff ran out to the customer and gave him his drink before he drove off.

Donuts are the best i have ever had. And this fat girl is a connoiseur. I have had donuts from Florida to New Hampshire. Never been beat. The white frosted sprinkle is my favorite, that and the boston cream. Their donuts are never stale. They are huge and the the donut dough is the perfect mix of airy and dense, not too heavy, not too light. Their burgers and fries are fresh and everything Americana. The quintessential classic everyone imagines when they crave a burger. This is the one. The beef patty is generously made and well seasoned, the toppings are fresh, the bun is a baker's work of art, and the fries are better than Chikfila by a mile. This food tastes like your circa 1980's american childhood if that applies to you.

I made an online order for a Luther Burger and came to the store for pickup. When I arrived there was a single person behind the counter making milkshakes for a lady and her kids as they stood off to the side. There was another lady waiting at the counterto order. It took approximately ten minutes for him to make the first order. He then took the second order and while he was making that order he addressed me and asked what I needed. I let him know I was there for an online burger order. He acknowledged that and continued to make the milkshakes. After about another four minutes he let me know my order was waiting on the counter. The whole process was rather lengthy for a pickup order and the restaurant appeared understaffed at the counter. It's definitely not the same encounters I remember from this restaurant when I was frequenting it approximately three or more years ago. I will probably not order online again and I would opt for more of a coffee and donut stop maybe every once in a while. If I receive the same level of service on the next encounter I will likely stop patronizing this restaurant.

I ordered these donuts a year ago to be picked up to treat my team at work. I showed up at the time designated to pickup and the people at the counter pulled off 6 tickets from the order printer and said they would get started on it for me. I ordered it for a certain time so I could run another errand and make it to work on time. I didn’t have time to wait so I had to go. I did not get any food and I was not refunded any money. A year later my team got team of the month ,last week, so I decided to give them another chance. I ordered two dozen donuts and picked the option to surprise me the night before I needed them. I was getting ready for work and got a message that my order had been canceled as they could not fill my order for any completely random assortment of donuts. I called them twice over the next hour since I promised my team at work donuts that morning and to make sure they would know i would literally take any donuts they had. I didn’t need a special order. The phone went to voicemail both times. Thankfully i had time to order Dunkin. I do not love donuts from Dunkin’ but I had to order them since I couldn’t get them from Sugar Shack.

Update**
Sugar Shack got back to me on the review and apologized for me not getting any food when I ordered and offered to make it right. I updated my review to reflect that the ambience and the food there are good and I appreciate them getting back to me. I don’t think there’s much else a business can do but apologize and try and make it right after making an error. I will order again and update the review if I am able to get food. Thanks!

I've gotten donuts here 3 or 4 times and burgers and fries twice. Overall, the food is delicious. I was impressed at the wide selection of burgers and vegan donuts, including turkey and vegetarian burgers. The burgers are big and juicy; my only quibble is with the uninteresting, pseudo-brioche buns. I tried the BBQ-seasoned waffle fries and they were flavorful but not spicy; a regular serving is huge. Except for the hamburger buns, the food tasted made from scratch. The workers are all friendly and well-spoken and know the menu backwards and forwards. There aren't a lot of tables inside nor out but the restaurant nonetheless has really nice ambiance: clean, modern, plants on the patio, warm and inviting. There's plenty of parking b/c the building used to be a 7-11. (You can still see the OG architecture.)

Ok, so the pistachio Vegan milkshake was to die for, it was really good. My burger was ok and the fries were cooked too hard. They seemed to have change the sauce they used to put on the burgers and though I love the onions, nooooooobody wants onion chunks on your burger you want thin circular slices. The best part of this visit was definitely the milkshake, I'll give them another try though because everybody is so fricking cool and nice there. I had to say nice and 😎 I couldn't help it. Love love love the staff.

I come here occasionally and usually it’s fine. But today made me question buying donuts at a place that also sells burgers and fries. The red velvet donut I got distinctly smelled and tasted like it had been cooked in the same oil as the french fries. Pretty disgusting. I took one bite and threw it away.

Excellent affordable donuts with a large variety of flavors. We also had the turkey burgers again recently and they were large and delicious. They had problems with staff and service a year or two ago but that seems to have been resolved. Definitely stop by this place sometime.

We ordered three different burgers and once we got home and looked at them all three were incorrect. One had cheese that wasn't supposed to and wasn't even melted. One of them the cheese was melted into oblivion which would have been ok but it was missing the bacon that was supposed to be on it. The third one was fine except it was also missing the bacon that was supposed to be on it. All three were so mediocre tasting none of us even finished them. I'm assuming it was just an anomaly. None of the four children that were working that night seem to be very interested in dealing with customers anyway. I didn't even finish the hazelnut milkshake that I was told was going to be amazing. It was not amazing. It tasted like disappointment. On and up note, the donuts we got all tasted great.

The mid-low burger; wettest burger and soggiest undercooked fries in town. Unfortunately I had to crush it like a king because big dogs gotta eat. Seriously though, it was sopping wet. Did y’all boil it? Or maybe steam it? Or maybe some teens spit on it? Vibe check failed.

Great assortment and selection. Nice toppings on the donuts. Not overly sweet. Grabbed a dozen and wish I got more. Will be back for sure.

This place is the best! They have so many vegan donut options which my kids love and they have vegan food that's pretty awesome. My hope is that they can survive here in the Richmond, VA market and that they have some support and longevity. Give them a try...we love it.
